Chelsea's mandate for January is all about defenders, with a full back now their top priority, after agreeing a £7 million fee with Bolton for England centre half Gary Cahill.
Blues manager Andre Villas-Boas is keen on Porto's Alvaro Pereira, but has switched his focus to Pereira's colleague Fucile, only to face stern competition from Liverpool, who are after a versatile full back to act as competition for Glen Johnson and Jose Enrique.
Fucile fits the bill for both clubs, being comfortable on either flank, as well as in midfield, and boasting the robust, battling qualities that would fit perfectly into the Premier League.
Porto are reluctant to sell, but with Brazilian right back Danilo sealing a switch from Santos, an offer of around £6million would be difficult to turn down.
That's a fee Chelsea and Liverpool are happy to match, but both clubs offer different benefits for Fucile, who has enjoyed success under Villas-Boas, but is a long term admirer of Reds boss Kenny Dalglish.
The 27-year-old also has interested from Inter Milan, but is believed to favour a move to the Premier League.
I would prefer Fucile to Pereira

Found these two stories on the United board:
"A match played around Dec ’93-Feb ’94 between Barbados and Grenada in some cup competition. Barbados needed to win the game by two clear goals in order to progress to the next round. Now the trouble was caused by a daft rule in the competition which stated that in the event of a game going to penalty kicks, the winner would be awarded a 2-0 victory.
With 5 minutes to go, Barbados were leading 2-1, and going out of the tournament. Then, when they realised they were probably not going to score against Grenada’s massed defence, they turned round, and deliberately scored an own goal, to level the scores. Grenada, themselves not being stupid, realised what was going on, and then attempted to score an own goal themselves. However, the Barbados players started defending their opponents goal to prevent this. In the last five minutes, therefore, spectators were treated to the incredible sight of a team defending their opponents goal against attackers desperately trying to score an own goal!
Eventually, the game did go to penalties, which Barbados won… Apparently it was televised live. I only managed to find a little YouTube clip...

"THE pass back to the goalkeeper seemed routine for Qingdao Hailifeng FC in its match against Sichuan FC in September 2009, even if the ball was struck a little too hard and the keeper only just managed to stop it running past him and into the net. Qingdao was safely ahead 3-0 with two minutes left in a meaningless match in China’s second division. What could be amiss?
Then a Qingdao assistant coach gestured for the keeper to come forward from the penalty area. Another Qingdao player promptly chipped the ball over him and towards the net, missing an own goal by inches. The final whistle blew soon afterwards.
Qingdao’s owner Du Yunqi was irate—at his team’s utter incompetence. As he would later admit to investigators, he had just lost a bet that there would be a total of four goals scored in the game. His humiliated assistant coach said on national television, “Afterward the boss was angry and scolded me, saying I bungled things and couldn’t even fix a match.”"
Starting to warm to Lucas Moura. Look at the skill he shows here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhQFN0bfkEY&feature=player_detailpage#t=82s
