I think it's more likely we sell Jorghino rather than Kante. There's been rumours of a return to Italy.

This break that we've had would have done Kante a world of good, he's barely had a rest for years. Constantly played for club and country ever since the Leicester winning season. When he's played this season, he's not looked right. I expect a much sharper Kante next season.

I think Gilmour can eventually do the job Jorghino does for us but I reckon he'll do it better given time and experience.

I will reiterate, I think we need to make a decision on Kante and Joriginho.

Perfectly prepared to accept that could mean selling Jorginho and going 4231 with a Kante-Kovacic double pivot. But I dont see Kante and Jorginho working in the same team. Not because they play the same position but because they suit totally different team styles.

I think the Kante - Kovacic pivot works for some games, but others it can easily exploited.

I think the problem is both are overeager and leave gaps in behind them. One game sticks to my mind was our game against Arsenal, where Jorginho was brought in before half time to fill the gaps.

I do agree that a decision between Kante and Jorginho has to be made. If Kante can get back to fitness then I would prefer Jorginho to leave, as we have Gilmour as a potential replacement.

However, I think the general balance in the midfield will be an issue going forward. I don't think it will be solved with either Kante or Jorginho leaving.

Gilmour is quite a capable midfielder, but I think people are hyping him up a little bit, or at least underestimating Jorginho. Even if he doesn't reach Jorginho's peak level seen at Napoli, he will be a decent enough midfielder.

Agreed with all NPE has stated. Kante is less suited towards possession based football, but my hesitations over selling him are that I'm not confident with our current project.

Kante can just about fit in a lot of systems, a lot of managers would kill to have a midfielder like him. As much as I like Lampard he may not be our manager in a season or two time.

Kante is also a lot less replaceable than Jorginho - we have Gilmour already as a potential replacement. Kante is also by far our best player.

Heck it might be unpopular but Lampard is arguably more replaceable than Kante!

Face coverings 3 months to late not that they have any real effect anyway apart from reducing your natural oxygen

I’m excited but also a lil bit wary of the Werner signing. Anyone who watches him play is basically unanimous that he’s not quite a normal no.9 who can play up front on his own, or at least hasn’t proven he can do it yet in his career. Throughout Leipzig he’s always had a strike partner (Usually tall, links up well, less responsibility to be the goalscorer). This paradigm is also supported by his performances for Germany which are less good, and he either has played up top on his own or as a LW.

Ok all this isn’t an issue if we play him with Tammy/Giroud, actually this in isolation makes sense. Would love to go into the season with Werner and Tammy/Giroud. But when you add in Ziyech, Pulisic and the rest of our key players playing two up top just doesn’t really suit our squad (with Ziyech and Werner).

But I there’s probably a reasonable chance Werner is actually fine in the right system played up top on his own

4-1-3-2 is evidently the way to go for us or 3-5-2

Ffs all the shįtshow that has been 2020 and Gazza only comes back for Timo Werner

I can't see us going for a 2 up front tbh. Maybe for certain games, but it means we would literally have to sacrifice in other areas of the pitch.

I don't know enough about Werner to comment but I can see him being rotated between winger and lone striker.

The realistic formations which revolve around two strikers are: 4-4-2, 4-1-2-1-2 (diamond), 4-2-2-2 and 3-5-2.

4-4-2 wouldn't fit Mount or Ziyech. The other formations formations sacrifice the wide areas.
