I don't see the issue of conceding from set pieces going away as I still feel there is a lack of physicality, presence and organisation in this side.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What's your remedy TJ...with what we have..?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I believe it's difficult to find a remedy with the players we have but there are areas we could do better.
Can possibly work on defending set pieces better, at times there's been a lot of mismatching when man marking.
But looking at our side on paper, I don't see many good headers of the ball or physical players.
Kepa could do a better job in taking charge of his box, felt at times he could have come for crosses/set pieces. It's either a confidence thing or he's reluctant to do so as he's not got the biggest presence for a keeper.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Kepa was better when he regained the top spot I thought...Rudi is a good header of a ball as is Alonso, -mind you i'd rather Alonso wasn't in the side for the most part

npe I think they’re great steps in right direction. I can kinda see why people are being so optimistic. Ok of course challenging these City and Liverpool sides is premature but Ziyech and Werner are two great signings and I also think all of Reece James, Pulisic, Mount and Tammy will continue to grow and improve.

and Billy Gilmour

Also I think our defence will get better with the additions of Werner and Ziyech. If we have more goal scoring and general individual attacking talent we can be a more defensive side. We don't need to be constantly overcommitting to try and score/create chances (and we have a great chance of getting leads and then being able to sit back).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I kinda of agree but for a different reason. I think if we become a team who converts more chances we can kill the game off earlier whick should deflate the opposition from attacking us as much. At the moment teams are always in the may h agst us.

I don't mind optimism and excitement, I just think we’re being unrealistic if they think our squad is capable of 90+ points next season. Cohesion, team shape off the ball, tactical discipline. and concentration in defence are all well off the elite level sids.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Expecrations shd be set for 80 to 84 points imo

That's likely to be a 20+ point jump from this season (unless we have a great last 9 games).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Absolutely, we have jumped that amount before, lots of reasons for me why it is an achievable target

Just saw that and well done Scots.
Most title wins are built upon a solid defence.
Our attack has the potential to be lethal next season if the new additions gel well into the side, youngsters such as Mount, Tammy, Pulisic and CHO keep on improving and RLC comes back anywhere close to the form he showcased at the end of last season.
However, what remains an issue is our organisation at the back. We're going to struggle without a GK our defenders can trust, a leader at CB and proper defensive discipline in midfield. Of course tactics play a role in how defensively solid a team is and Lampard's tactics have a propensity to leave us vulnerable on transitions (which exacerbates weaknesses of players like Jorginho who struggle to cover ground quickly). But we've seen with Liverpool how quickly things can change in defence simply with the addition of top quality players (Allisson and VVD).
An attack that takes its chances will ease pressure on the defence but that doesn't mean a base level of assuredness isn't required. I haven't seen anything as of yet that gives me much confidence that our defence (as is) can keep things tight on a regular basis. Perhaps that will change next season but if not, regardless of how good our attack is, I can't see us challenging for the title.

minididi Lampard has said we're trying to emulate how City and Liverpool built their teams. Both (primarily) focused on their attacks first. City getting Sterling, Sane, Jesus, KDB before getting Laporte, Ederson, Walker. Liverpool getting Mane, Salah, Ox, Wijnaldum before getting Van Dijk and Alisson.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's a solid plan to be honest. I just think people should temper their expectations if they think we'll be challenging for the title next season. I'll be happy if we really cement our place in top 3/4 (by getting consistent results) and develop a well-defined attacking style that can reliably get us goals against a variety of defences.

Though I definitely think we should be aiming for 75+ points. Anything above 80 points and we'll have a solid platform to challenge the season after.
Think it'll take a bit for our attack to really get going. Which will set us back from the start. But once it clicks...hopefully it clicks...then it should be very exciting.
If we are genuinely looking at players liker Werner havertz etc and pull off one of those in addition to ziyech plus a left back there isn't any reason why we shouldn't be Confodent of a good season
With ziyech our attack looks very good.
If we add Werner to that it's beautiful
Defensive worries are still a concern but I think it's a coaching thing rather than a player thing
