I dont know what we are trying to do anymore. Incredible to say this far into his tenure.

Me either

Changes every week

Need Naglesmann or Poch, feel like we’re giving him time but it’s just pointless as it’s gonna be the same end result no matter how long we give it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is just our standard fare when facing quality opposition. We rarely play expansively against sides as good as Sevilla. As a consequence, we don't create much which means we just have to be clincal. Under Mourinho we were brilliant at this but this team lacks that killer instinct.

My main worry is how we play against teams below the top tier. We haven't looked close to getting the balance consistently right when playing teams in the bottom 12 of the PL. This should really be the main concern.

Zouma is an odd player.

He's a good player but he does have a lot of poor moments, in what would be considered good defensive performances.

He is a good defender but awful on the ball. Sadly for him modern era of football needs CBs comfortable on the ball.

Defence looked good apart from Zouma. He's completely dominant in the air but still has moments where he reminds us that a 36 year old Thiago Silva is still by far and away our best CB.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We were always going to improve massively in defence once Kepa was dropped. Having Silva is a major bonus as well of course.

Our attacking players weren't on it at all today though. Pulisic in particular looks well off the player we saw last season, he obviously needs time. Werner had a bit of a stinker, his touch let him down a lot tonight. Ziyech is going to need time as well by the look of it. Hopefully not too much.

His lack of ability on the ball means he'll never be an elite defender. Great back-up but long term we should be looking at someone else for a starting role at CB.

Pulisic looked lost on the right.

He moved to the left early in the second half and looked at home. But for some strange reason him and Mount swapped again.

Yup. Attack didn't click today. Havertz drifted through most of that game. Werner lively but wasteful and Pulisic had some good moments at the start of the 2nd half but seemed to lose steam after about 60 or so minutes. The CHO substitution needed to come way earlier imo.

Lampard's reminding me of Ranieri more & more as his tenure progresses, and I dunno if that's a good or bad thing.

How do we go from the ridiculously chaotic 3-3 draws against WBA & Southampton to that performance? I remember this with Ranieri all the time, seemed to be an emphasis on defense or attack, rarely an effective blending of the two.

I miss Sarri's predictability. You knew the gameplan, 99% of the time you knew which teams would paste us, frustrate us, and which ones we could get it. You knew who were his boys & which ones needed to drastically improve/be sold off, etc... he was an armchair managers dream, made you feel knowledgeable

Like having Joe Cole on punditry. Up those Chels numbers

On fairness it was clear we defended much better as a team tonight. The attacking players were much better in that regards. I think sacrificing some attacking prowess to get that part of our game right makes sense.

Started the second half well. That was encouraging and what we need to see more of.

I don’t know why that stopped. Maybe it was the subs. Didn’t put together a single attack in the last 30 mins.

Reece James was great today as well. Showed people that we really don't lose much defensively when he plays ahead of Azpi. Bodes well for the long-term as him and Chilwell look like a really balanced pair of fullback

Yeah I thought both fullbacks were good.

Chilwell has made a good start for us.

For sure. If they can stay fit for the entire season I can see our defence being a lot less of a problem.

Chilwell has been fking brilliant, was expected him to be average at best. Was it a case of his head just being completely gone in his last 6 months at Leicester?
