I've never seen a manager latch onto such a bad and out of favour player like he has with Alonso.

Intact the similarities to alonso are quite mad, a few managers, frank aside, have persisted with him despite not being able to run past 2mph

Kante and Zouma (in the middle) against the best pressing team we’ve played under TT is a bit risky. Disappointed Cho’s not playing, don’t have anyone that can take a man in that team.

Good thing is Southampton are not parking the bus. That’s a really attacking line up from them.

Yep, we have azpi,zouma, alonso, kante, Werner, abraham who are all very poor on the ball at times. Can’t take the ball under pressure.

I'm not overly worried. Just mostly Alonso I'm annoyed about.

We're playing a team who presses extremely well yet the only player comfortable in possession is Kovacic. Kante and Zouma together is a recipe for disaster when it comes to playing it out from the back. I can see us going long very frequently. Or over the top. I also haven't been impressed with James at WB so far this season. Goes backwards far too often. The front 3 is fine and I guess Alonso at WB is baked in now. I trust Tuchel but I think we're playing with fire with that lineup.

Or, maybe he has seen something we haven’t? Maybe he intends to play more direct, hence the lack of a metronome in midfield?

I dont think that is fair, especially as Ballack was average most of that season, likewise Joe Cole and Essien.

Also I looked at our last nine PL games that season - Mikel started 7, Ballack started 6. So I dont think your facts are right, it is true Mikel got injured for the last three games though.

Ballack was phenomenal that year. Mikel was awful and that’s all there is for me. Lucky for us the guy had his best ever game in the cl final. Couldn’t move, switched off defensively, couldn’t shoot, couldn’t pass, couldn’t score. Could shield the ball and thats about it. I still remember everyone mobbing him for the long ball to Anelka because everyone was so suprised,
