My first taste of music on the radio etc came as boybands and like the spice girls were in full swing

So i envy the 80s

I missed that luckily, I didn't start paying attention to the radio until the mid 2000s, by which time peak boyband/girlband era was over but there was a lot of crap. I recall that awful song by Daniel Powter was on pretty much every day for about three years.

As a child I listened to Motown/Stax/Atlantic mainly because my dad. But discovered Led Zeppelin when I was 8 and went on a full on classic rock run for years before finding Mr Bungle, Skid Row, U2, Pixies etc and then things really took off in the late 80s.

As far as rap/hip-hop in my life I think I only ever liked Cyprus Hills first album when it came off and that was because my little league baseball team all listened to it. And Mos Def as he actually had insane talent.

I used to listen to Cypress Hill's first album as well back in the 90's. Off the top of my head can only remember the pigs song though

I never liked them but when I was 10 I exclusively listened to what is often called punk pop/soft rock like Green Day, Jimmy Eat World, Blink 182, Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco etc...yes, cringey.
