I agree about foden. You have to remember he was being played out of position at the start. But he's grown well since playing centrally.

again, I just don't think Palmer has show enough in his cameos to justify starting him. But, similar to foden, he's grown well into a sub role.

It's pretty simple.

You said about Palmer, "His hero-ball style of play is suited perfectly to a sub role imo".

I countered that with saying that Palmer was one of the very best players in the PL last season as a starter.

And it's pretty obvious that Kane, Bellingham and Foden could all argue the same. But Gareff prefers their attributes more for his gameplan.

Gareth is not making wholesale changes for a final, he'll go with the same approach/tactics that's got him this far. I can see Shaw coming in for Trippier, other than it'll be the same team.

Having the likes of Watkins, Palmer, Gordon etc as impact subs is fine against tired defences as they'll have more space to work with.

It won't work against Spain.

In Gareth's defence if we lose the Final he'll be criticized whether he makes changes or goes with the same 11.

Either way we've got this far because of the squad and their contributions in helping to change the games and in the shootout.

Yup. Southgate doesn’t make changes. It will be the same team again, followed by Shaw coming on at half time. If he needs a goal around the 70 min mark he’ll bring on any of Palmer, Watkins, Toney, Bowen (probably not Gordon who hasn’t had a minute since his bicycle accident which might have annoyed Southgate).
If he needs to be more defensive he’ll bring on Gallagher.

We're going to need a huge amount of energy to stand any chance against Spain. Our attacking starting players look cooked, they've played a lot of football in this tourno at the end of a long club season. Bellingham admitted that he was out on his feet at the end of 90 against Holland and didn't think he had extra time in him.

I'd be tempted to swap out Kane and Foden for Watkins and Gordon. I'd also seriously consider Palmer for Bellingham. Kane, Foden and Bellingham on the bench ready to come on if needed. Being that bit fresher as they didn't have to start.

I’m with you, Superb. Unfortunately, it’s not going to happen, and we’ll spend most of the game looking exhausted.

Yup, until the subs come on. Although it will be too late by then I fear against this still very fresh looking Spanish side.

That's something the Spain manager does right tbf. I've noticed he makes refreshers subs consistently, no tactical value to them, just fresh legs.

I'm surprised all the managers in these International tournaments don't do that. You've got all these games jammed into a month, just common sense if you've got the squad to do it.

Folks are on here talking about showing enough in cameos when their guy has contributed to the same number of goals as Palmer in about 5x the game time, having started every match

4x as many shots but the same number of shots on target, 40% of his passes backwards and 5% of them into the penalty area

But oh no Palmer plays “hero ball”, god forbid someone take anything other than the safest possible option every time they get the ball

I know! I’ve been saying this for a while - we buy all sorts of average players for huge amounts of money, and finally a world class player is available for a reasonable fee and we dither. What’s to think about? Olmo is available for £50M! Bid now! (Or maybe after the final on Sunday).

Yeah we’re close to spending over £100m on players that don’t improve our squad for next season.

Having Lavia & Fofana plus James back should though

I don't get the issue, Palmer could very well score the fecking winner in the final. Who cares if it's as a sub?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Palmer hasn't done enough to start ahead of Bellingham Sakha or Foden, and doesn't do the defensive side aswell as those three, but he needs to come on sooner than he has been if we struggle agst 🇪🇸
