What I can say is that nobody from the club asked me for the Champions League this year. Nobody said that we need to finish in the first four,' Maresca said on Friday.

What they said is that we need to arrive and compete, step by step.'

Really stupid if the owners expectations aren't higher though, hopefully he's lying about that.

If they don't expect anything this season, then it's an admission they've downgraded as Pochettino's expectations would've been top 4 I imagine.

I actually think he and the club are being honest & realistic.Which is not a bad thing, might even be the best thing they have done since they took over.

Imo, the reality is the ownership seriously damaged the club/ their investment in the first 12 months of their tenure. Everything they have tried to remedy this so far has failed.

it is evident with their actions they are taking in transfer market that they are not focused on building now for a top four finish, improving the squad as our rivals are doing with specific focus on improving precisely, to improve their league positions.

I hate the term scattergun approach, but the truth is, what they are doing is a scattergun approach.

Contrary to opinion regarding their strategy, I for one do believe they have their own reasoning for this.

It may well be that, they see better value in building for the future 3/5 seasons, stabilising their investment and getting over the up & coming sanctions for the failed reporting errors under Roman between 2012- 2019.

Personally I think they need to have a more honest and realistic relationship with the supporters of the club

Alrighty, we're officially mediocre. Dreaming of one day competing with the clubs who finish in the top four.

That was obvious when we hired a manager from the Championship.

A club like Chelsea should be far more ambitious than that.

I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t get sacked before this time next year.

I’ll probably be hoping for his sacking by like February.

He is a tonally unproven manager at the top level bringing in a system of play totally alien to this group of players. Plus it is not clear to me we have the technical players to play out from the back. My expectations are zero.

same here but how can you motivate players to try and achieve the most by essentially saying they're not worthy of top 4 and our dream is to compete for top 4 Lol
