This whole James can be our Ledley King doesn't really work for me. It didn't really work for Spurs either. It was just a desperation move to keep a phenomenal player playing as much as possible. Which ended up being very little as memory serves.

If things carry on like this with James and if he isn't willing to retire or find some kind of deal with the club where we're not paying him £250k/week for the next few years then the club will need to seek legal action to find a resolution.

I doubt it would come to that though as James seems like a good kid and loves the club. Really he should be on some kind of a pay as you play deal given his shocking amount of injuries. Surely the most injury prone player in the PL by some distance.

There is no legal resolution. We gave him a contract, as long as he turns up to training ever day - he is fulfilling it.

And no matter how much you love where you work, you're not walking out of a £300k per year deal if you know you'll be lucky to make a third of that at the next club due to injury worries.

Three years left on the deal - £46.8m, half it for taxes: £23.4m, no one whose career is on the edge of collapse walks away from that.

So James only has three years left ? That isn't so bad I guess. Was thinking it was longer. Presumably we'll get a handful of games out of him over these next three years before he inevitably retires from football in three years time then.

I believe it was a 6 year deal in 2022 so 3 more seasons yes
