As a Boro fan, I rate Downing, but I rate Jinky (Johnson) higher.

I don't understand why we don't just take Lampard OR Gerrard rather than both and waste a squad place!

posted on 16/5/12

Depends whether either has the fitness to do all the games in a short space, looking at liverpool this season i think we know Gerrard cant.

1 game in 1 out for both

Tippy, I'm going to post my tactics in 3/4 comments purely to try and find out the word that is not allowed

If you can copy and paste them together would be great

May 16, 2012
Starting 11

--------------------------Hart
Clyne------Boateng--------Kompany (c)
----------------Britton------Schweinsteiger-----Bale
Zaha-------------------Allen
--------------------------Borini-----------------Sinclair

Subs: Lindegaard, Alderweireld, Kjaer, Pepe, Witsel, Cavani & Jelavic

Tactics:

Possession is key. If we keep the ball, then no matter who we are playing against we have no fear.

My team will keep control in possession mixed with intensity going from the first whistle to the last.

We will work together from the back to the front, in defence and attack.

Hart has the safest hands in football, and will use his intelligence to distribute the ball in either a controlled way to his centre backs/full backs, or to find Zaha or Sinclair in space. He will also look to get quick ball to Bale who can immediately look to go on the attack.

Kompany's maturity and commanding abilities means that Boateng and Clyne will listen to his instructions. He'll read the game from the back. Ushering his backline forward when we are on the offensive, but showing steel like composure when in defence.

Notes: Boateng will play in his preferred centre back position. Clyne strong in defence but young in terms of experience will hold his position throughout the 90 minutes - with my opposition having a three strong strike force, this is a time for us to be mindful that a full back's primary concern is defensive not offensive.

Bale is left back, but will start much of the offensive play when Hart distributes the ball to him. Bale and Sinclair will take on our opposition's right hand side. When a break fails - whichever of them is in a more defensive position/or both will track back to cover this area. Bale and Sinclair will work as much together in offense as defence.

Zaha is even more free to attack from the right, with Clyne having his back Zaha can run and run at my opponent’s left hand side.

With no visible width to my opponent, I cannot see anything but Zaha, Bale and Sinclair having ample opportunities to run down the line to get crosses in, run into the box to create chances for others, or to create chances for themselves.

Britton and Schweinsteiger in the middle - let's forget about the term defensive midfielder for the moment. Yes, I'm looking for these two to keep possession, but in a progressive way. They'll link up with their central defenders and Allen in front, but they can play in their own half for the majority of the match as long as they are playing short passes between them. Ensuring that the passing is neat, accurate, precise, and making sure that the opposite side are constantly chasing the ball. Again if we have the ball - they don't. They may have big names throughout but we'll absorb any of the pressure they can muster. This triangle;

------------Britton-------Schweinsteiger
---------------------Allen

Will determine the result of the match, as mentioned short precise passing between the 3 of them, and as I expect Sinclair, Bale and Zaha to have the freedom of the city down the wings - good clean passes out to the wings will lead us into our offensive play.

Borini is going to be a workhorse up front. He's going to look for Allen to get forward to support him. He's going to look for Bale, Sinclair and Zaha to get crosses into the box, hold that ball up, turn and pass or shoot for goal. Sinclair can move into the penalty box and support him - the passing between the two of them and Allen, and Zaha on the edge of the box can make this one man up front on paper job, actually far more effective when the wingers and attacking midfielders join in and get involved too.

Star Man - Joe Allen

I'm convinced that Joe will be the key, and I believe my opposition will underrate him vastly.

Joe will break fast for counter attacks, and his ability to change direction and/or to stop almost immediately at high pace means that M'Villa and Badstuber will find it very hard to get near him without fouling him. He will constantly be moving, with or without the ball, and will never wait for the ball to come to him or take a breather. And he will keep it up for 90 minutes.

Joe will show incredible vision of what goes around him on the pitch, he will read his team-mates movements and will always pick the best pass, and even when my opposition force him into a very tight area he won't be rushed.

Free kicks; Schweinsteiger and Bale to share duties
Penalties: Borini

Subs:

75 mins - Pepe on for Zaha, Cavani on for Borini

Injuries - like for like.

Right, sorry about all this - I found the word - it was in my 3rd post above - that's why I sectioned it out because I didn't have a clue where to begin!

Tippy, if you like I can post the whole thing in tactics?
