I like McCoist, always have. However, this was a severe error of judgement. It was clearly fuelled by high emotions and this is something that he will learn to manage as he gains more experience in the job.

The dangers of the media and the fact that those involved in football are seen as some sort of cult leaders has only become more evident over the past few years.

For some reason, not ones I subscribe to, Mr Lennon is a hate figure amongst certain non Celtic fans, despite the fact that he is a man doing his job.

It is true that he could do his job in a more demure way, but his management method is to unite the Celtic fanbase behind him, and if any criticism is to be directed, he takes it, not the board, or the team. If this makes him into some sort of metaphorical martyr, then he has achieved his aim - a siege mentality- bringing the thunder back, this is just the beginning etc etc.

Now, Lennon had unprecedented activities surround him off the park - completely unforgiveable and which should be utterly condemned by all right minded people.

McCoist this year has had a somewhat bruising introduction to front line football management. He has made mistakes of course. But even in his wildest nightmares, I would suggest he had not expected the events of the past few months (just as Lennon did not expect nor deserve his).

I am not saying they are remotely similar. But they are both not what either signed up for as football managers.

McCoist gave an interview on Rangers TV using terms like "fighting back" - does that mean literally giving someone a kicking? Of course not. It is a colloquialism which is used in sport, life etc.

He asked to know the names of his accusers on behalf of the fans. If he personally already knew the names, which is probable, then he could not release them himself. That would have been wrong. What is wrong in asking that your accusers in such an unprecedented and controversial decision explain their actions in person, so we can all be sure, without doubt, that they were knowledgeable enough to make the decision and had no bias in either direction.

Could McCoist have perhaps chosen his words more carefully - yes. But hindsight is always 20/20 vision.

But those who seek to take his comments as some sort of rallying cry for nutcases to attack the SFA and their judicial panels are almost as bad as the completely reprehensible people actually doing the attacking.

The media love this sort of stuff - we should all remember that. We only ever see or hear what the media want us to - this goes for either side. The talking heads of the so called journos in this country with their varying agendas but unified lack of talent, do have a lot to answer for.

It is now obviously time for cooler heads on all sides.

But unfortunately, with nutcases around like those involved in threats against officials, refs, SFA, judicial panels, managers etc., cooler heads may be hard to find.

I would never condone threatening anyone over a football matter - it is after all just a game.

But come on, the number of sactimonious hypocrites on this forum is astounding.

Normal rangers and celtic fans are well aware of the numpty element of their support, and to pretend otherwise is ridiculous.

I for one would like to know just how the identities of the panel became known along with personal contact details - who made this info public? A member of staff, a journo from some well-known rag? WHO?

And for those of you who still want to play the moral outrage card, can I recommend you a poem by Rabbie, called Holy Wullie's Prayer. It will show you that moral hypocracy has been around for a long long time - some people need to try evolving.

The names of judges and lawyers in serious criminal trials are publicly known so let's not get hysterical about someone asking for transparency over this.
