I'm not a Man Utd fan, I just think Gerrard is horribly overrated. From what I've heard last season they played much better when he was injured, which wouls suggest this

you started this pash west coast, you ridiculed my opinion based on nothing to back it up, i have simply asked you to justify your comments, if you can't i suggest you leave it at that

Gerrard is the type of player that seems to be rated highly in english football - he "gets stuck in", he's gees up the crowd and he works hard, but is of limited ability (in terms of world-class midfielders) and is a selfish player who often tries a spectacular shot when a teammate is in a better position.

Players like Alonso, Xavi, Pirlo, can see and pick out passes Gerrard doesn't seem to be able to, and they do it with an extremely high regularity.
He doesn't have the ability to control the pace of the game in the same way top, top midfielders do and doesn't have the same first touch top class players do that allows them to be in control of the ball as soon as it comes near them, every time it comes near them.

And thats why IMHO Gerrard should never be classed as one of the great central midfielders
