That team would finish around the same as last season. However there is no way that will be the team next season.

Theres a distinct lack of pace in that team. I'd expect a new signing in at least 1 of the positions that you have Mereiles and kuyt in. I also im pretty confiedent we wil have a left back.

we defo need pace installed into that line up, and some creativity.

No way should Gerrard play center midfield. He just can't do it. as it been proven on countless occasions.. Be the same as usual he attacks and we are left with one centermidfielder when teams counter attack.. Gerrard should play on the right and cross the balls for the likes of Carroll. He would back up the rightback as a good cover to.. If Gerrard does play in centermidfield we are stuffed..

To be honest i reckon we would be better with 3 at the back against stronger teams, like chelsea last season, but with a holding midfielder.
Of course all the teams are subject to opposition, availibility and form...

Gerrard and who ever plays on the left can come inside and give more to the center of midfield that would allow the full backs to get forward more..I like the 4-4-2 system as long as everyone works their socks off. Playing with one up front like we have done in the past , as made it harder to score as there is only one forward.. to press the opponents back line.. When you play that system the wide players need to be outstanding and we have had kuyt on the right side with no pace what so ever.We need to take the poistive approach at least we will have chances to score goals..

4-2-3-1 system Rafa employed is currently the system that suits our squad the best. That will change depending on who we sign

the 4-2-3-1 system doesnt work though.We will always win games no matter what system we play. The problems are when you play that formation 4-2-3-1 your wide men have to be exceptional. And we have Kuty inparticular who as no pace what so ever, so when we build up play it gets slowed down again. The system works when you have two oustanding players ie Gerrard and Torress at the time, The rest of the team was basically a defensive set up with two holding midfileders and wide players backing up the fullbacks...
If teams marshal the only centerforward it makes it very difficult for the rest of team to link of the only forward. so its all going backwards all the time..

I don't like to think about the team as it stands. We are still crying out for width as an option. I was hoping that the players we had identified would be signed quickly. I was full of hope when we signed Henderson, now I'm rather worried.

When new players are brought in they need as much time as possible in preseason training with their new team mates. But we've been down this road before.

I think playing Reina as striker, might be a good move however I don't like the idea of Carroll in goal.

No one who seriously wants to challenge for the top 4 will play just three at the back like that.
