No, he is the highest scoring centre back in Europe because of this.
Yes, I do.
It shows passion and confidence but also a lack of discipline and patience. It cost us against Wigan recently.
he does because well out attack is lacking.
Defenders should defend
attackers attack.
This only works if your attackers are pretty good, but we only have 1 real goal scorer, so we have to comit more men forward.
That shot which was clearly handballed by Shawcross was going top corner

We are not scoring enough goals recently. We must improve against Norwich and WBA.
I think it is tactics, vermaelen always offers a threat going forward. Has been doing it his whole career.

W.H.A.T.
That is a narrow minded view; the game has moved well beyond that point at the top levels of the game- "defenders" must be confident on the ball and able to contribute to the attack; likewise, "attackers" must be able to position themselves effectively in zonal-marking systems and put in a high work rate to win the ball back or keep the opposition away from goal.
Look up "Total Football" for more ideas, its the way all the top clubs of Europe are slowly moving (and have been for some time), with some ahead of others (Barca)
Plus, Vermaelen was educated at AJAX, which, along with Barcelona, has had the "Total Football" philosophy and training methods ingrained by Cruyff amongst their youth-teams for a long time, so Vermaelen isn't gonna play like ur usual "lump it up the pitch" CB
as long as someone covers his position it's ok

We concede too many goals
think about that.
He does it because he clearly wants to win and doesn't trust our attack to come up with the goods, and when RVP is misfiring, nor should he. Would you stake money on Gervinho to bring home the bacon?
So yes, it may be a lack of discipline, but it's due to an excess of passion to win and frustration over our shortcomings.
I get what people are saying, but my only criticism of the guy is that he's like a loose cannon sometimes. He doesn't need to do it always, he needs to pick and choose his time carefully without exposing us tactically.
