To answer your question PaulScholesVision - Alba would def be my first choice

I prefer Alba as well, I think he would fit in well at the club as he is such a threat going forward.

The only problem is will we be able to get him. As he is a player in demand. And I have a feeling Barca will want to strengthen their LB position. Can we compete with Barca.

Unfortunately I think he'll go to Barca

Barcelona apparently have already agreed a deal for 13 million euros for Jordi Alba and are set to announce the deal at the end of the season.

Rafa is only 21 he has improved so much and will get much better in time. Yes he makes mistakes but i don't know any other 21 year olds who don't. Its been tough for him as he doesn't play all the time. Judge him in 2 years.

The only reason I would prefer to have Walker over Rafael is that he isn't as injury prone.

Tbh rafa has only had 1 or 2 injury this season

But it's enough to disrupt his place in the side, whereas I think Walker has played every game for Spurs.

I think Walker has played something like 45 games and Rafael about 17

Didn't Fabio have a stint at right back last season? what better cover/replacement for Rafael than his twin brother? i know he's down as a left back and is going out on loan next season but i think a left footed left back would give the team more balance, especially if it's Nani or Young on the left wing.

If I were to pick one spurs player, it would be sandro... I think he is a perfect fit for what we need.... strong, good tackler, hussle and bussle, drives forward, decent passing range and a goal threat

Rafael is better than Walker. Spurs defensive frailties are from their fullback positions.

Rafael has played for us at all levels and will only get better.

Kyle, like most Spurs players disappear in big games.

No thanks

Little Pea - I think the two of us were debating about the RB position last week.

Walker is a t'riffic player. Great going forwards. Better defensively than people give him credit for, but he's definitely not fully learned his trade yet.

Right now, I rate him higher than Rafael, but not by much. And I think Rafael will go on to become much better.

With regards to signing a RB - I wouldn't mind one signed if they were a specialist backup to Rafael. Perhaps an experienced one as you said last week to help him learn his trade. I would still want Rafael to play as often as possible, as he's already great both going forwards and defensively (last week he was poor, I'll admit). A signing like Walker would increase competition, but may stifle the progress of both Rafael and Walker. One would probably later be sold and I doubt either will have reached their potential.

Yep I'm definitely not suggesting United try and buy Walker for one sec, as I said in the article, and I agree completely with your first two paras.

The point of the article was simply asking of the Spurs players we keep being linked with does anyone actually think Walker might be a more preferable target to Modric and Bale, as I've seen many United fans saying they dont want either of those two.

As per last week and today I think we need a more experienced right back in the squad with Rafael, and I'd lean towards a starter more than simply back up for Rafael because I think Rafael still has a lot to learn, isn't yet totally reliable as we've seen in very key games this season, but has a lot of potential that a more experienced player would help develop while also helping us win major trophies.

To answer the original question - I'd rather signing Walker over Bale, but not over Modric. I really like Modric and think he'd fit our system well.

Hard to argue with your final point. I guess it comes down to how highly you rate each player over the course of the season. I already rate Rafael amongst the best in the league in his position, and his generally solid performances make me overlook his very occasional poor one. I think a consistent and long run of games throughout next season would turn him into one of the best in Europe, rather than being a rotational player with an experienced one filling in.

Perhaps I show too much faith in our young players at times, but I think Rafael is right on the edge of a massive improvement, and game time is the way to tip him over it.

Nothing wrong with having faith in your players mate

It's just a fine balance between giving them enough game time to develop and still trying to win major trophies when you're at one of the biggest clubs in the world. Thankfully something SAF is good at.

'young' players I meant

Yep, it is about finding that balance. For me, Rafael is at the point where he needs games; whereas for example Jones and Pogba still have learning to do off the pitch. Whatever happens, I'm sure SAF will make the right decision.

Right, I'm off to bed. Big day tomorrow!
