Old saying goes like:
Rugby, played by thugs, supported by Gentlemen.
Soccer, played by Gentlemen, supported by thugs.
Read what you will into that.

Definitely the case up North anyway.
Luckily this "disease" hasn't spread down here. Our Football fans will do us proud out in Poland this summer

Here is a letter in todays IT giving an opposite viewpoint to the one above:

Sir, – I was fortunate enough to attend the match between Ulster and Edinburgh on Saturday. I was shocked and dismayed at the behaviour and bad sportsmanship of the Ulster supporters from start to finish.

They booed the announcement of each Edinburgh player as soon as they appeared on the big screen and this continued throughout the game until the final whistle! In many years of being a rugby fan I have never encountered such behaviour and hope never to again.

Shame on Ulster! – Yours, etc,

GERTRUDE ZETSCHOCK,
Buckinghamshire, England.

Wrote it yourself, did you DUBLONDAIN! Strange cove that Gertrude, besides dressing up in women's clothing it appears she gets a thrill from being "shocked and dismayed" as evidenced by the fact that she commences her letter by telling us, "I was FORTUNATE enough to attend the match between Ulster and Edinburgh." Perhaps like a lot of Edinburgh's good citizens she likes a bit of rough trade and positively thrills to the crack of the whip, especially when its wielded by those shameless Ulster Buckaroos!

The bould Gertrude seems to have stepped off the pages of an Agatha Christie murder mystery.Interesting how a letter objecting to the sensibilities of people at the Aviva is published right quick, yet ones highlighting that same paper's abysmal record in being to the forefront of hyping the property bubble, are not.Perhaps if the writer had a vaguely Anglo Saxon name, and a return address in the warm bosom of the home counties, they would, or wouldn't.

I deleted most of her address to save her from further abuse (she must get enough with a name like that).
And you are dead right about the IT letters page.

"....to save her from further abuse" >>>>>>>>>> What a spoil sport you are Dublondain! Rude Gert will be most displeased at your gentlemanly efforts to stop her getting her fair share of abuse!

Now cast your mind back to this time last year when the NIreland football team were coming down to play the Republic of Ireland at Landsdowne Rd!!!
Its a mystery to me why can't the Northern Football supporters just behave themselves like civilised people
----------------------------------------------------------
The poster didnt clear write this article to congratulate Ulster ,he wrote it to have a go at the NI football team. How very sad that he couldnt just say congratulations and leave it at that.
Withl this generalisation I could easily say that during riots in Belfast I often see people with ROI & Celtic tops throwing petrol bombs and stones etc ,does that mean ALL fans of Celtic and the ROI are responsible for the minority?

Stop lying mick you see about two or three out of hundreds.

Spin it how you want Mick. The fact remains the Ifa couldnt trust their own fans to travel down unsupervised! That is the point of my article. I merely asked the question why is this.

Wasnt it wee Sammy Pepys(Joan Baez used the poem) who coined the phrase, "SAD, SAD WORLD" about the newborn baby suckling at the Harlot's breast and all that.

He simply refuses to acknowledge the universally accepted fact that Canadians like nothing better than to baik their fok with a good game of ice hockey. The silence from him is deafening !
