silly article - poor attempt
.....................
I don't even know what it is an attempt at, apart from, maybe, really bad grammar.
I wonder if he actually knows where Stockport is.
Ahh Stockport. In Ibiza in 95 I got lucky with a girl from Stockport. She worked in a passport office. Funny what you remember.

I think you're right
Answer to your question, yes.
You can't deny that City will have it's plastic. Much the same as United Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal all do.
With Success comes franchise and glory supporters.
I would hardly call people from Stockport who support United or City plastic glory hunters. Hardly out of towners are they. Its like saying United are not a Manchester team cos OT is in Trafford.

this is what 95% of city fans go on about though - although most say we're in salford since they've never actually been to manchester and realised OT isn't there.
city fans also don't seem to realise that they were founded in gorton, at the time not part of the city of manchester. only one club was founded in manchester - united. (well, 2 if you count our spell as newton heath as separate).
You can live next door to OT and still be a plastic fan in my opinion.
If you only bother to support the club because they've become successful, you're a plastic, no matter where you live.
Unless I've completely misinterpreted the meaning of a plastic fan?
Stockport is less than 5 miles from the COMS.

I would certainly consider some who takes a 300+ mile round trip 8-9 times a season a 'better' supporter than someone who live 2 miles away and goes to less games.
As for atmosphere; unfortunately that again suffers when you're a big club. I'd love to know how many people are at each game just to say they have been. Much the same happens at Real Madrid, and UEFAlona.
That coupled with stadiums being converted to all seaters hasn’t helped. I would ague though, atmospheres are better on weekday games, as it’s a lot more inconvenient for day trippers, and much easier for ‘proper’ fans to get tickets.
On the subject of all seated stadiums. Have a read of this and sign the petition if you agree with the concept:
