Taking aside the natural hatred towards the rag as a Pool fan, it is a lousy excuse for a newspaper, I don't understand how people can enjoy it as a form of entertainment. It's the same kind of people that read Nuts.

It's not just them though, it is pretty much any paper that gives ratings. I guess the press have their favorites and will do anything to poison the public perception of anyone else.

Good solid player in terms of passing, needs to be accompnaied by a bit of steel in Midfield imo in big games where we may be outgunned

Because they are completely different types of players maybe? Toure stamps his authority more but that's his role. Carrick's role is more to shield and distribute.

What we've got to realise is that very few people in this country actually understand that skill and intelligence is more important than strength and stamina (though at the top level of the game, these are still necessary attributes to an extent). A lot of the media are still holding onto this ancient belief, and so they print their opinion and those who don't fully understand this will have their opinions set by the media.

The ironic thing is that when someone like Busquets or Martinez does exactly what Carrick does, the press think it's the second coming, just because they're Spanish. But obviously Carrick being ENGLISH, the ENGLISH press would never dream of supporting him.

A lot of united fans slate Barry who is a similar player so it's a bit wierd to read this thread!

Wild suggestion here but maybe because whenever Carrick has come up against Busquets or Martinez he has been played off the park.

True. I've been guilty of slating Barry in the past. He's probably better than I think.

I think he's a similar player to Carrick, but not as good as him on the ball or off it.

Cityblue. I made a comment about Barry yesterday on here. I have slated him but against us and to a lesser extent yesterday he was impressive. I think him and Carrick would provide a good base for an England three with someone like a Gerard/Lampard/Wilshire playing in there with them. The advantage Carrick has over Barry is his ball control and passing ability of both feet. Barry is very one footed and his passing isn't as good. His tackling is better though.
