to be honest i think this guy loves the attention - if you take time to look at his twitter you will see he is looking for an argument and does get into pointless nonsense with people - not just about NI might i add - also about Newcastle players and management. He should have some brains and ignore the haters instead of sending out messages acknowledging the abuse he gets which fuels it further. The more he engages in it the more it makes him as bad as the ones doing it.

yep, no doubt he should bite his tongue and i would imagine MON will have a word in his ear about the same.

its yet another example of social media being used in a bad way - use it properly and it a great tool. But use it wrong and it becomes a mine-field.

I'm sure the Garda siochana will conduct a thorough investigation and catch the culprit(s).

I see McClean stooped to their level in his response. He had an opportunity to take the moral high ground but lowered himself into the same gutter.

no doubt it would be better if he would say nothing and take the moral high ground as you say - however, the lad is barely out of derry and to get hundreds of abusive messages is something im quite sure would be difficult to deal with - as i say though, i reckon MON will have a word as well as the PR side of sunderland

No doubt MON will be able to handle this well, just as he did with Neil Lennon at Celtic.

The abuse is truly sickening, but Mcclean shouldn't stoop to their pathetic level. But he is a young lad and social media is very dangerous.

How has McClean lowered himself to their level? Two people threatened to have him shot, did I miss the part were he threatened to get someone shot?

I expeceted that from the two NI fans above but others should know better.

All he is doing is letting them know that he couldn't give a monkeys and wont be intimidated.

he is fuelling the fire - by giving them the credit of acknowledging their abuse, seems pretty obvious.

posted on 8/5/12

I don't think it is to do with fuelling the fire.

My point is that he shouldn't respond to such pathetic people, as frankly they don't deserve his response. And that is all they are craving. Mcclean has done nothing wrong, but in my opinion I don't think he should respond to these idiots. But he is perfectly entitled to respond if he wants, I just don't think he should.

GAWA what should he do? Cower in a corner?

Two people threatened to have him shot and called him a Fenyan basta and your first response was 'to be honest i think this guy loves the attention'.

Away and have a word with yourself.

posted on 8/5/12

if people know he will respond then people are more likely to do it. And vice versa for that matter.

As stated above i think he should just keep quiet and get on with things - people will get fed up if they dont get a response and will move on.

So on an article about two people threatening to have James shot you think the focus should be on James' response?

Aye, very good.

I'm sure many young players in the NI youth teams will be watching this.

Sure mclean is as equally bigoted as those neds

How?

posted on 8/5/12

Gibbo really he should ignore it and get on with it.

And if you read his twitter page you will see he has provoking comments about newcastle on his page aswell.

Im not for a moment saying threatening anybody is right but him goading people will lead to mindless idiots to shoot off nonsense directly too him. There is a way to deal with these people and stooping to argue is not the right thing.

You will notice that everybody was in agreement here and then you come in shooting your mouth off saying he hasnt lowered himself trying and trying to stir things up using sectarian language - so go get a mirror and have a long hard look at it.

posted on 8/5/12

Nope GAWA. Your first response on an article about James McClean recieving death threats and being subjected to sectarian abuse was to claim that he somehow brought it on himself.

What he says or doesn't say to Newcastle fans is meaningless. Pure deflection on your part.

I couldn't care if everyone was in agreement, I make my own mind up. What sectarain language did I use apart from quoting exactly what was said to McClean anyway?

The attitude of NI fans in this is similar to the Lennon affair. You guys never learn.

and he has removed his comments from yesterday regarding NI - so if he has done nothing wrong then why has he removed it?

posted on 8/5/12

Gibbo, how?

"in the squads I felt like a bit of an outsider. There weren't too many Catholics, it just didn't feel right."

posted on 8/5/12

What did he remove?

posted on 8/5/12

How does that statement make him a bigot?

Or, as I suspect, you don't actually know what the word means and are just throwing it about to defend the threats against him.

posted on 8/5/12

about how he was 'loving getting dogs abuse from NI supporters'

posted on 8/5/12

Gibbo, read his statement s.l.o.w.l.y...

posted on 8/5/12

Yeah, I read it. I've read it a few times. Coming to the same conclusion each time.

Either you are at it or you don't know what the word means.

I go with the later.

posted on 8/5/12

I can't believe that some people are actually trying to make Mcclean look like the guilty one here. How on earth does that statement make him a bigot?

posted on 8/5/12

GAWA, and what? What should he do?

Cower in a corner? Nah, he's just right.
