Wenger has Song, Wilshere, Arteta, Diaby, Ramsey, Coquelin, Frimpong already. He would have to get rid of a couple in my opinion, and as much as my fellow Gooners wish he would, I don't see it happening.

Unless Song goes I cannot see M'Vila coming.

yeah OP is probably injecting a dose of realism.

Arsene hates killing players, and if MVila signs, players will get hurt.

Agree.

People seem to think we've already signed him. I still think it's unlikely.

I've said again and again that Song is a world class DM but average PL attacking midfielder. We may well be getting M'Vila as a genuine disciplined DM.

I think Stan the man Kronke is splashing the cash this year but only time will tell.

Agreed OP. Sad but realistic.

according to french journalist Julien Laurens the M'vila deal is 99% done.

If Song doesn't sign a new deal then he'll be gone IMO. Frimpong can go on loan, and Diaby..... well, it's Diaby. I can see it happening.

Phillipe auclair, the main man in french football said it is not close to being completed.

If we do get M'Vila, then its definatly the end of Diaby.

It would cover our back line alot if we got M'Via as he actually sits back and does his defensive unlike Song.

Will he join us if we lose to west brom and finish outside the top 4? For me we need to make champions league to have a chance of signing him.

Wenger has Song, Wilshere, Arteta, Diaby, Ramsey, Coquelin, Frimpong already.
-----------
Song - Proved he isnt disiplined to stay bk and defend, wants to play hollywood balls all the time.
Wilshire - Been injured for a year god knows what he gonna be like when he returns.
Arteta - Class player but not a ball winner/power MF
Diaby - LOL get rid of this injury prone dim wit.
Ramsey - Clearly not a Defensive MF still not bk to form since leg break.
Frimpong - Forever injured and needs a spell on loan.
Coquelin - Not proven at PL level has only started 2-3 PL games.

The above is all true, but Wenger would never get rid of Song, and Arteta and Wilshere are more than Squad players.

Frimpong always injured and needs to go on loan? thats how he got injured before.

For starters, Wilshere and Arteta shouldn't be on the list. They are different types of players and are nailed on for a first team start.

So really you're looking at Ramsey (who also isn't a similar player to M'Vila), Coq, Frimpong and Song. But for me, you have to look at the quality, which is why Coq and Frimpong are automatic blown out the water.

So basically we have M'Vila who, if he signs, will compete with Song. This has surely got to be a good thing? All season and at crucial points (like now) we've been crying out for quality. M'Vila would represent that quality. Serious competition for Song who despite his attributes, has been very comfortable in his role this season.

More quality can only be a good thing.

Or, you can look at the options we have at defensive mid:

Frimpong
Coquelin.

Two young, relatively unproven players, both injury prone. I'm convinced we will sign him

Plus, have we been found lacking in midfield this year? Yes.

It's a done deal

Of the players you listed, how many are currently injured and have been injured for long periods of the season.

More than ever to win trophies you need a large squad with quality throughout.

M'Vila as a midfielder is really only competing with Frimpong, Coquelin and Song for the defensive midfield spot.

Frimpong is not ready, Coquelin is yet to be really tested and Song is not disciplined to play that role any longer.

As we have seen with Rosicky and more recently Ramsey it may take Wilshere the best part of next season to get back to his best.

As for Diaby who know's what will happen next but same applies to him also if he eventually does make a come back.

How long have you lot supported Arsenal? 5 minutes???

We have needed reinforcements in midfield for years and Wenger never does it because of the likes of Diaby, Denilson etc.He only got Arteta because Cesc and Nasri left and Wilshere and Diaby were out, but it is hardly a long term fix.

Wenger has been our manager since 97 and yet people still do not understand him. Crazy talk.
