I love it, gutted we haven't won it for years
Amen. After we beat City this year I really couldn't see anyone stopping us. But then, typically, we were drawn against Liverpool away!
Have you noticed that more often than not we will be drawn against another Premier League team, while Chelsea more often than not will be drawn at home to a lower league team?
Not claiming a fix, but it's no wonder they have won it 4 times in the last 6 years!
we still had to beat the team in the final.
You did, this is true, but your run to the final has been fairly easy. Also, in two of your finals, you have played teams nowhere near as good as you... Not taking anything away from a great achievement of course!
Oh, and good luck for next week.
It's lost some of it's magic in most people's eyes, which is a little understandable. I still really like it.
They should stop playing semi finals at Wembley immediately, maybe play the match at a big stadium somewhere in between the opposing clubs.
And having the final while the league season is on doesn't help.
I think putting the lick-off back to 5.15pm was yet another nail in the coffin, and it now ranks only just above the League Cup in terms of value to the clubs. The PL and CL are so far out in front in terms of priority these days, which is a shame. I too think it's far too long since we won it, and would love to see us lift it again.
It will never be the same competition that it was 15-20 years ago - Cup Final day was the BIG day for football fans, especially if your team was in it. Both ITV and BBC covered it live, (from about 12pm onwards usually - the words 'Cup Final Grandstand' still give me a warm glow) and the whole nation came to a standstill. It seems now it's scheduled so that it doesn't interfere with saturday afternoon's shopping trip.
Consume first, football afterwards, get your priorities right!
I'm really disappointed that we've not won it for nearly 10 years now. Every season I think this will be the year.
I say it before every draw "we'll face a PL team and Chelsea will be at home to lower league opposition"! Again, not complaining, that just seems to be how it pans out.
I remember as a kid in the 90s, getting up to watch the build up on cup final day was fantastic (when we were involved of course). I was always so excited.
It's ridiculous that the semis are played at Wembley, purely a money making thing. Playing there should be the reward for getting to the final. OT/Emirates/Villa Park etc are all great venues for semi finals.
We need to start winning again soon as our record number of wins will be overtaken at somepoint!
"I think putting the lick-off back to 5.15pm"
But I do agree - this took the magic out a little bit. The FA Cup used to be the big day - it still is if your team is in it, but not if you're a neutral.
JonVeron you seem to be echoing my sentiments exactly, plus you spell your name the same way I spell mine! Are you my doppelgänger?! Haha.
I also think the FA Cup Final was scheduled to make sure the viewers stayed tuned in to Britain's Got Talent. 11m apparently watched the cup final so that's a big share of the ratings. Simon Cowell must be stopped! No coincidence that he's not a football fan!!
