And yet Downing put in the most crosses and got 14 league goals from the right hand side last season.

Kind of undermines your theory really doesn't it.
------------------------------------------------
It doesn't undermine the theory at all. You only have to watch him this season for us on the right when Carroll has played and then watch him from the left when Carroll has played. You'll see the big difference in his play. He becomes more direct.

Downing made his best crosses from the left, this is understandable and in fact started a load of games on the left for Villa and throughout the season moved from left to right. However playing on the right, he comes in field and can score goals, he hasn't did that for us, his confidence, like a majority of our players, is shot.

TOOR

Can I ask you why you use the word did instead of done? Is it part of the scouse dialect? Im not having a go by the way, it is just that I have noticed it a few times in your posts. Just wondering?

TOOR - "We bought players and we play them in a system which doesn't suit them."

TOOR, don't you mean "Kenny bought players and Kenny plays them in a system which doesn't suit them"? Because I am sure that neither you nor I had anything to do with it.

yes it does.

You want Downing to provide more crosses. We made the most crosses in the league.

You want Downing on the left because he is better there when he got player of the season on the right for Villa scoring goals.

Perhaps he has just not delivered full stop and that is it. Downing has not played to the best of his ability. End of.

If he can play on the right and set up Agbonglahor (sp) and Carew he can play on the right and set up Carroll and Suarez.

Tactics or no tactics he, like others, have let themselves down.

I think that there is still time for Downing. You often find that players moving to a new club take a year before they feel at home. I'm sure that he will come on. You need to be playing both him and Carroll on a regular basis though to get the best from them both.

----------------------------------
No he isn't. He has done it throughout his career and has provided crosses after doing it, in fact he's one of the best and most consistent players in the league, at doing it. The wrong system, for him and many other of our players has resulted in them not performing. This is obvious to most.

Except the system you highlight, and the position he plays within it, got him player of the season last year.

Please tell me how you explain that.

I explain it by the fact he simply has not delivered as an experienced Premiership p[layer and full International. It's a crazy thought that he should take responsibility for his own actions I know but I'm all about accountability.

Well that's easy, he can operate on the right. He was Villa's best player, of a bad league campaign.

But if his game is about creating chances the he has delivered, as he has one of the highest chance creation stats in the top five leagues in Europe.

Quality chances, well that's a different matter, one which could be correct, if both Downing and Carroll played, with Downing on the left.

How do you explain many top players, suddenly all having a bad season, at the same time?

Thought you said that the tactic did not work? Make your mind up TOOR.

Who? Reina and Downing? Who are the other "Top players" who have not performed?

You really should refrain from making things up TOOR. We've spoken about this before.

It didn't work, haven't you been watching the games?

We are creating chances but not good chances, which is why we're not scoring goals.

"Who? Reina and Downing? Who are the other "Top players" who have not performed?"

Reina, massively underperform but can you include a goalkeeper in not working due to tactics? I wouldn't. Downing, Gerrard, Carroll, Enrique, perhaps even Suarez, as he struggles, being not an out and out striker, playing in the lone striker, nobody in the box no goals system.

How can you explain these players just suddenly playing poorly? The system does not suit them. Suarez isn't a lone striker, Gerrard's days of playing in a two man midfield seem to be gone, at least judging on his performances, Downing has nobody in the box to aim at. Carroll has nobody supplying him. Enrique also has nobody in the box when he gets forward.

You really should refrain from burying your head in the sand and obsessively chanting "everything is ok, everything is ok".

Why do you have this compulsion about copying and pasting my comment. It's above you!

Gerrard has 9 goals and 5 assists in 21 games so what you on about. Fail.

Suarez has fine stats so fail.

How can Carroll have nobody supplying him when Downing "has one of the highest chance creation stats in the top five leagues in Europe."? Fail.

Enrique is not even an International footballer and if he could hit a barn with a cross he may do better. Fail.
