just an example of gary megson throwing our money away on high earning under achieving players-elmander,taylor,riga, etc.no wonder losses were being made paying salaries like that.he was a horrible man.
Yeah but why did gartside allow it
I see what you're saying benny but you've got to feel sorry for Sean Davis. He has been so unlucky with injuries. I remember when we signed him he looked like he could go on to be come a real force in our midfield. Then he picked up that injury against Liverpool which now looks like it may have ended his career. I very much doubt that during the 27 months he was injured before making a come back in the reserves he spent his time cashing in his pay cheque with a huge grin on his face, particularly looking at how we have struggled I'm sure he wished he could be out there making a difference.
As for Riga, Elmander, Shittu, Smolarek, Rasiak, Makukula.............. well the less said the better.
benny it's not Sean's fault he's been injured so badly for so long is it? As to the Bolton news well, all i can say is that I'd be less than sanguine about taking those numbers as gospel.
I for one would like to see Sean fit and playing next term. I rated him quite highly when he first joined and if he can get close to the form and promise he showed then he could be a real asset.
I rated Elmander too but thought that he was badly misused by Megson in a system that never suited him. we saw the best of Johan under Coyle but by then it was too late for the fans and I suspect had we kept him we might have had a dozen goals off him last term as well as a better option in a CAM role which is where he played for sweden.
As to the others, Taylor Riga et al, well, not much you can say to those is there? you're spot on about them at least.

He was injured, for christs sake. May have been worth it of he wasn't injured because he was a very good player.
How could Megson tell that he would get injured...?
wrong again am i? paying an average footballer £35000 a week.just a sign of the mismanagement of this club since sam left.
It could be argued that Sam contributed to your perception of 'mis-management', by paying 30+ somethings in excess of 30k per week each.
Since then, we have never recovered.
I see what you're saying benny but you've got to feel sorry for Sean Davis.
===============
He's been paid £5.4m to faff about in a gym 5 days a week for the last four years and we HAVE to feel sorry for him do we?
Oh come on LH you know what I mean. The guys life has been one long grind to try and get himself fit, suffering set back after set back.
All any professional footballer wants to do is play football in a packed stadium week in week out. None of them wants the constant grind of trying to get back from injury. I can't imagine what its been like for the guy being out for as long as he has. Every time he's got close to a come back he's ended up having a set back and being back to square one again, that has to be demoralising and take it out of you mentally.
What gets me most about the situation with Davis is that fans moan about how much we've paid him for so little return and yet it is no different to whats been happening with Gardner for the last 3-4 years and yet that gets conveniently skimmed over or ignored.
I don't think you can blame a player who suffers a career threatening injury for taking a wage.
It would be like coming back in 3 years time and blaming him for having a heart attack because we have to pay hjm until August 2014.
i have sympathy for davies picking up his injury but giving him a 3 yr contract on those terms was crazy.we must be saving fortunes releasing/offering reduced terms to the likes of robinson, knight, steinsson etc. yes sam did sign a few 30 somethings a few years ago but the likes of okocha, hierro, campo, speed, djorkaeff etc were actually worth the wages they were being paid and none were on long term contracts.

Anyway...
I don't blame Davis, but I don't have an ounce of sympathy for him either. Poor Davis, getting injured at 29 and not being able to play football for three years, all the while being paid £5.4M.
What about the long term unemployed in this country, who can't find work? Many of whom are penniless and depressed because they can't find work and pay the bills or feed their families?
Anyone who feels sorry for Sean Davis really needs to just get a grip on the real world outside that of vastly overpaid footballers - none of whom give a toss about you.
largehat.
I agree with you, obviously, that Sean has had a better life than the vast majority of people, but from a footballing perspective the guy must be gutted that he can't play football, in the same way that Holden is.
Tevez and the like would be more than happy being injured and rolling in the money, but most people have a soul, unlike mr Devildog.
I am reminded of Burt Reynolds talking about the ups and downs in his life, how he suffered broken relationships before and after he was successful:
"I've been rich and unhappy, I've been poor and unhappy. Rich was better".
Let's not pretend life is a grind when you're getting paid £35,000 per week.
I think if we learnt anything last year, it's that money doesn't matter when it comes to a persons personal happiness. Money can't buy happiness. And I bet Davis would swap all his money to have been playing the last 3 years.
Considering one of our own, a man with respect from every fan, a man with fantastic achievements as a player, fantastic record as a young manager, a man who despite endless wealth and respect, felt taking his life was the only option for him last year, the correlation between wealth and happiness doesn't seem to have been removed by some.
RIP Speedo
Now of course Davis earning that much whilst being injured is ridiculous. No doubting that.
But just because someone has money, doesn't stop them from being unhappy or even depressed. After all Depression can come from just an imbalance of electrocity in your brain.
