Yeah he might be too flicky at times, but he's the only player we have who Fergie plays in the centre who will run at the opposition.
....................
Giggs does this better when on the wing. Now, Anderson on the other hand does run well at the opposition from the centre. Sadly he keeps getting injured.
With regards to Rafael - I'm a big fan. Nothing gets past him down his side and he helps out a lot in attack. He is no longer rash in the tackle as his reputation suggests. His only problem is failing to track the runner when a cross comes in from Evra's side. This is just a concentration thing and can quickly be sorted.
I really hope Sir Alex stops trying to accomodate Phil Jones to any position available and sticks with Rafael. He's clearly our number one right back - The combination of Valencia and Rafael is brilliant. As the OP said positioning will come in time, for now let him breath and enjoy his football. Can't remember the last time anyone really has been allowed to since Cristiano Ronaldo.
Agree with VC regarding Giggs and Anderson.
That Welbeck stat is a little surprising. He certainly needs to improve his finishing and composure. But he brings so much to our general play it's good to keep him in the team while his finishing improves.
Welbecks shooting accuracy was one of the best in the country.
The OP is trying to show he is not as wasteful as everyone makes out...

My mistake. I thought the OP was showing it as very low and being sarcastic when he said Welbeck is a brilliant player in the making. 59.7% shot accuracy is actually pretty good.

For his age, his goal scoring record is not that bad actually.
There are not many who have done better in the prem at the age of 21. Owen, Shearer and Fowler probably.
Rafael offers so much more going forward for us than Jones, and isn't any worse defensively if you ask me, at the moment.
One thing that concerns me is that we have no players in the top 9 for chances created. Now this might be because our chances are created from a wide range of players (Rooney, Nani, Young, Valencia etc. - who were all injured at some point this season as well) but if you look at some of the guys above Nani in the list, we could really do with that kind of player (Silva, van der Vaart, Mata).
I've seen a lot of differing opinions on the type of CM fans think we need to sign. Personally I think we need one midfielder to break play up and take a game by the scruff of the neck and also an attacking player who will unlock defences through the middle if our wing play isn't as effective as we know it can be.
MyNani - I wasn't being sarcastic, don't worry i'm not one of the fickle brigade.
VC - Very fair point on Giggs, he is better out wide, but with Anderson out we need t make do with what we've got.
Park -
I was just mistaken, I thought 59.7% was bad but it's actually pretty good.

But does that stat not just mean that he got the shots on target? Which is all well and good, but he has for me hit many good chances straight at the keeper. He needs to be hitting the corners.
Elvis - You make a good point, but the fact is Welbeck is still young, and to be getting nearly 3/5 shots on target is a brilliant platform to build on. Plus he's got 12 goals this season, which suggests he definitely doing something right.

Im not having a go at the lad - I think that he is quality and will develop into a great player for us. However, his finishing does need some work and I cant believe that he has scored 59.7% of the shots he has had. As I said, strikers should look to get shots on target and work the keeper at all opportunities. However, Welbeck has been wasteful in front of goal this season and scuffed/snatched at plenty of chances. If he had another year or two under his belt then I think we would have won this title on goal difference or even points. However, the only way for him to get the experience, confidence and composure is to keep on playing him - and I'm all for that.

He's at the age where he's not top quality yet, but needs game time to reach the next level. Training won't improve him much as a footballer now, experience will.
