Koh Rok for 2 nights (pal's yacht), then down to koh Muk's 'Emerald Cave'. It's a small 25 metre beach inside the island that can only be reaced by swimming through an 80 metre long cave at low tide.
Yup, Khao sok is also quite cool (especially on a mountain bike...an American woman has been runnig a treehouse resort their for years. I lived in the south of Thailand for twelve years and I agree that Koh rok is a good shout, but I have discovered numerous other places that I refuse to share until I get my 'hidden Siam treasures' website up & running. 'Erawan Falls' in Kanchanaburi is also a very special place'
pattaya
i liked kanchanaburi. stayed on the river there in a bamboo hut for about 100 Bhat a night. i think this is my cheapest ever accomodation, and some of the most fun.
i also went to the real river kwai in sri lanka
went to the emerald cave. i liked ko muk (it seemed to me like 'the real thailand' and there's a cracking hostel there over on the unfashionable side of the island. wasnt that blown away by the cave though.
ive no doubt youve been to some amazing places in thailand. you're very lucky to live there.
re koh sok - i hiked to ton gloi waterfall in rainy season. you couldnt do that on a mountain bike.
oh yes. just seen it. you said that i make you sick.
thanks so much

to be honest, it aint all it's cracked up to be.
yeah, im glad i went to some of those places, but i used to have far more fun down the pub with my mates back in the day tbh. for me travelling about was more about satisfying curisoity than anything else, which in most cases just meant verifying that i didnt actually need to see the place at all and that going there didnt actually serve any purpose other than to find out that id dint need to go there.
not knocking it, but most places are pretty much the same tbh.

on the 'blonde girl night' that was supposed to say.
Anyway, depending on how much cash you want to spend, how much time you've got, and of course what your interests are, there are some grest trips to do out there sometime.
Locally, youve got
1. Skiiing in the Alps - exhileration, breathtaking scenery, great social.
2. Barcelona's september festival - can be done as a weekend. amazing culture and entertainment, as well as one of the greatest cities in the world, beach etc.
3. Backbacking /island hoping in the Orkneys - wildlife, great scenery, cultural sights, see people living an old lifestyle.
4. backpacking / busing in bosnia & herzergovena - amazing scenerey, great food, amazing culture.
5. italy - can do a long weekend in rome. take in the vatican, galleria borghese, colloseum, parthenon. or do it as a longer trip and take in napoli and the amalfi coast, or possibly venice, sienna, florence, lake como.
6. istanbul - long weekend to see some great cultural sights.
7. ben nevis, Soctland - go up to fort william and be the highest man in britain.
Further afield there are some great trips round india or thailand where your biggest layout will be the flight, but with relatively low costs once you get there.
For india, you could go see delhi, agra and jodhur.
thailand trips can include ko rok, railey, ko sok, bangkok, ko tao. maybe go over the border into cambodia and see angkor wat.
those would be my tips anyway
