Source? Would be a great signing but I thought we had no money for either wages or transfer fees? Surely Huddersfield would want a bit of bob for him.

not in a million years.

garty wont sanction more than a few grand for a player.

coyle wouldn't spend it anyway.

a premier league club are interested.

non-starter...

has Leroy lita been mentioned yet?

benji with eleven players released today the wage bill has fallen dramatically and if the lad wants to leave then we'd have some dosh there to pay for him unless they ask ridiculous money. he's under 23 so they'd be entitled to some compensation whether he's under contract or not but that is set by a tribunal if the clubs can't agree. his wages won't be astronimical either 'cos he's so young and it sounds as if the top clubs aren't all that interested yet.

if this is right then it's a straight fight between us and rovers and with kean still at the helm there and the poisonous relationship the owners and manager have with the fans (who I agree with by the way) the lad might well decide he wants a more stable club with a good man manager which for all his faults owen is.

It could well be a moot point of course. if he gets promotion with huddersfield he might prefer to stay there but if he wants to work his way up to the prem then I'd say his chances are much better with us and that at Wigan he'd struggle to get a game.

It's obviously just paper talk at the moment and might not be true but if it is I'd say he's just the sort of player we need and we should definitely make a real attempt to convince him he needs us too.

I'll reserve Judgement on Rhodes until he faces defenders who aren't 3rd tier standard.

Didn't Mackail Smithscore 35 last year, but only 10 for Brighton in the championship?

In any case, I doubt we have the funds to buy a striker, when we need central defenders desperately, and they will be first on our agenda.

Secondly, there will be PL clubs in for Rhodes regardless, and last I heard Fulham were in the race to sign him. A lower level PL club will sign him, not us.

Good player, but not one we will be on for. Far too big a fee required.

Going to have to set our sights much lower than Rhodes.

Why did we not do this in January when we still had a bit of pulling power?

I think jumping from 3rd tier straight to the prem might have been considered a bit too much for him then vera and perhaps huddersfield were asking stupid money for an untried kid. don't forget we had klasnic, n'gog, tuncay and SKD as well so perhaps Owen thought we had enough strikers then.

Now it's a different story and we only have two strikers left plus we aren't as high up as we were so it might be a more realistic option all the way round. I don't think fulham will sign him, he's not Jol's type of player and as the article itself said Wigan would struggle to fit him into their system not to mention the uncertainty about who their managers going to be come august anyway.

It's just speculation of course but just for once I think it might actually have a realistic chance of coming to pass. We'll have to wait and see but I think he'd be good for us and vice versa.

If he leaves Huddersfield, I doubt it will be for us. there will be one or 2 prem clubs interested, and bigger Championship clubs than us too. I think it's a case of someone statin' the obvious (Bolton desperately need a goalscorer) and lookin' at Rhodes scoring record, then puttin' 2 n 2 together.

Still ..speculation costs nowt ...but a bit far fetched, IMO.

if we are to bounce back 1st time we have to get a goalscorer in.in 97 we had the mcginlay/blake partnership 95 had coyle/mcginlay, 93walker mcginlay,88 and dont laugh we had john thomas!went up on those goals.dont fancy ngog to get many,k.davies maybe 10,unknown sordell.its not rocket science the championship or 4-5-1,holding midfielders etc.solid defence, good midfield, goalscoring partnership and 4-4-2. any money we have would spend on the lad.

Sordell scored 20 in 68, in 18 months in an average Watford side. He will score goals, and I think him an Ngog will link up well given the chance. I'd rather KD was an impact player rather than a starter. With better service for our strikers and being able to play 2 up front I think Sordell and Ngog would work well, one with pace and decent feet to create chances, and one with pace who has confidence in putting his foot through the ball.

Sordell won't be scorin' any if he's nailed to the bench for months (as he inexplicably has been, since OC bought him) ...and N'Gog will have to improve vastly on his (dire) return of 3 goals in 32 appearances (though I'm hoping he'll find his level in the Championship, and so do far better). Another McGinlay and/or (dare I say) Ricketts would be ideal, but proven goalscorers don't come cheap .... and ' cheap as chips ' will be the order of the day as far as we're concerned in the transfer market, for the forseeable future .....

We need 3, probably 4, decent strikers in the Championship. I think SKD, Ngog, and Sordell will all do well next season. I'm guessing Coyle will favour 4-4-2. But his favoured 2 strikers will probably change over the season with injuries, form etc. What I think we really need is a strong player, and a ball winner to anchor midfield.
