Stevie G. Paid millions of pounds a year and still has hair like a dole queue dosser.
So in summary Carrickature you haven't put down one good reaason for him to be selected for team GB. There are better players in better leagues who should be picked ahead of him.
A gold medal is at stake and we should field the best team possible and he isn't good enough anymore.
I like becks, but his career at the top level is over

It has been for about five years.

I'm all for opinions but please read over my posts. I gave you plenty of reasons. Like Robbie Keane being a cert for Ireland in the Euro's. Becks plays in the same team as Keane and is playing as good as Keane. So of course Becks should and could play in the Olympics. Other reasons, he deserves to for all the work he did actually getting us the olympics. To many he's a national icon and it would be great to see him involved. I'd love Giggs and Scholes to be involved as well. I really don't see the problem.
Carrickature, the olympics provides an opportunity for younger players to grow and blossom. Stars like crespo, messi and aguero used the opportunity to gain experience. Becks is not part of our present or future and therefore you cannot justify his inclusion in the team.
Pablo Zabaleta
Fernando Gago
Ezequiel Lavezzi
Juan Román Riquelme
Ángel Di María
Nicolás Pareja
Lautaro Acosta
Javier Mascherano
Lionel Messi
Sergio Agüero
Sergio Romero
That was the core of the Argentinian team that won gold in 2008. Are we going to take it as seriously or do we just want a few pin-up boys to fill the seats?
The Olympics allows three players over the age of 23. Becks isn't taking a slot that will hinder any up and coming players because we will take three overage players anyway.

I'd rather him than Downing at the Euros tbh.

So true
Perhaps players in their late 20's who have probably missed out on international football but are still useful and deserve a chance should be picked.

Not exactly sure who this genius over 23 year old everyone wants to take anyway....
Any good English players are going to the Euro's anyway (apart from Micheal Carrick ) the two best Welsh players are under 23 anyway (Bale and Ramsey)
So I can only assume there is some world class Scottish player over the age of 23 who we are not taking and picking Beckham instead off...
In all honesty even ignoring the fact Beckham deserves it is there actually someone out there who wants to take part in the Olympics over the age of 23 who is actually better than Beckham?
Also there are two picks outside of Beckham so they cannot be included in that list either...

Sorry but on what footballing basis does Beckham 'deserve it'??? He hasnt even played football at a top level for a long time. If you're referring to his role in getting the games to London, perhaps we should pick Daley Thompson for the Decathlon then or Seb Coe for the 1500m.
There are literally loads of players over 23 that are better than Beckham now, and play in a top league. There are also ones that help make the team more GB focussed rather than England focussed.
Giggs is one example of the latter for Wales, and I'm sure he'll get picked.
Steven Fletcher is another example for Scotland.
You could even argue Bellamy (32) ahead of Beckham purely on the fact Bellamy still plays for a big club in a top world league.
Joe Cole would be a better option too.
Rio could obviously go as well now if SAF let him.
Also what about Micah Richards?? Surely he's a country mile ahead of Beckham, as is Adam Johnson.
Charlie Adam of Scotland hasnt had a great season but again would surely be ahead of Beckham on current football ability, mixing up the home nations, and the fact he's actually playing in a strong league.
Beckham is so far down the list for me now that I'd even go so far as to say I'd take a fit Owen ahead of Beckham, and that is really saying something!!
Anyway, i could go on, but given SAF wont let Rio go, I'd pick Giggs, Richards and Johnson as my 3. Beckham wouldnt be close to being picked in my squad.

How about Ken Livingstone, he did more than anyone to bring the games to London.
The people clamouring for Beckham to go are missing the point of the olympics. It's about taking the best available. Athletes have to qualify to be in it, why should beckham get a free ride?
I'm sorry, his football career ended when he moved to the US. People need to move on ffs, he's past it
