You think he would do well with us?

He would do well with any team.
He is the best full back in the Prem.

Debatable as to Baines being the best LB in the Prem

but I wouldn't sell him for less than 20 mil let alone 12

Tocky,

the only left back any where near him,Cole, had a really poor start to the season,he got left out of some big games,he did come good from March onwards, brilliant in the final
Over the season,i think Baines was the best.
I didnt restrict it to left back either mate,Walker the only one who gets near Baines imo.

I would love it if Baines came here.

That article has no quotes what so ever, or any source it is completely fictional.
If Moyes wouldn't let Lescott go bar a massive ammount don't expect Baines to be uprooting so easily.

I guess its the fee agreed when Gibson came

Baines is worth more than Lescott.

Lets start from there regarding valuations.

Who would we replace him with? That's the other question.

I love this Club and I really wish we didn't have to be a selling Club but I suppose times are hard. I definitely think the sale of Gibson had some sort of caveat attached to it vis a vie Baines and if so his value has got to be at least the same as Lescott, but you never know with devious Kenwright, anything for a buck. I just wonder though where we are going to find another left back and if perhaps we could raise the funds by selling the likes of Rodwell/Anichebe/Coleman (burnt out already) etc!!!

Maybe they would give Garbutt an extended run. He did well this season out on loan. I would assume that if Baines went it would lead to a da silva twin coming on loan??

As for a left back I am sure we would be linked with our old friend Rob Fanni!!!!

or is it Rod???

The story comes from The Daily Mirror who have run stories about Baines' imminent departure in each of the last 3 transfer windows. They also published more false transfer stories in the last (January) window than any other UK newspaper (source: http://www.bootifulgame.com/portfolio/january-transfer-window-horsesh*t/ note - you'll have to make a slight amendment re. the asterisk). I don't know whether Baines is going or not, but I'm pretty confident that this story is rehashed nonsense.

Re Dittonblue's question about who we'd replace him with, I'm pretty confident that Garbutt can eventually be the answer. He might not offer as much going forward and he's certainly not the finished article (yet), but I think the boy is quality.

Garbutt is the future but he wont be ready for another season or two - depends how he got on out on loan. Heard he has a sweet left peg though. Would have to take Lescott type offer as so much of our play and attacking thrust goes through Baines. £12 million would be a joke

Rumour has it we are after kieron richardson from sunderland a winger converted to an attack minded left back.Cover for Baines or a replacement?

posted on 23/5/12

Given that there has been no official statement on this, I'd take it with the mandatory pinch of salt. As has been mentioned there are no direct quotes form any named source. Speculative reporting at it's worst.

£12m is also a joke amount. Current England player on a long contract with no desire to leave, and a club with no desire to sell.

Baines ismore than just a full back for us, he's the fulcrum of most of our attacking play.

I wouldn't sell him through choice, no chance. It'd have to be a price that was impossible to turn down that persuaded me that I'd have to let him go & that price is way over £12M & I'm sure Moyes will have a similar view.

We need to sell to buy, but it won't be Bainsey that raises the funds, unless the offer's north of £20M imo.

I'd also comment that if Pienaar comes back, it would be ridiculous to sell Baines as they were the combo that made most of our attacking chances.

U14518,

in a nutshell .
£12 million would not buy Leighton`s right boot.
Although it was £50 million for the left boot the last time we heard similar

I said a couple of weeks ago the price would surprise you

------------------------------------------------------

You said earlier in your OP that the price was £9M 2 weeks ago & it's now going up...............so how does that equate to a deal being agreed re: Gibson in Jan?

It makes zero sense & is just the usual sort of guff that gets spread in the close season.

It's a nonsense imo, same as the Rodwell in "cotton wool" from the other summer.

posted on 23/5/12

Yeah. Strange how the price has increased. Bet the player changes next!

posted on 23/5/12

It could have been any player of ours that Man United reportedly showed an interest in. As the 'sooth sayers' back in Jan, had phook all to base their 'story' on, aside from the fact that they thought we'd stolen Gibson - this therefore automatically equated to us "having done a deal" regarding Player "X".

Now the Mirror <yawn> has written that the Mancs want Baines (who doesn't?) it now means that the tin foil hat brigade were bang on.

What's so funny mate, have you realised that the latest tale cooked up in the Spellow is a pile a shight?

posted on 23/5/12

The steal deal for Gibson had nothing to do with him being out of contract did it?

A barrack room lawyer and a big girls bloose.

People could not possibly chat to each other regarding transfers,Everton footballers would not do that
