I nearly put bond in earlier ginge but id thrown so many names in today - i thought you may think i was taking the proverbial - you didnt even tell me to stop or shut up
You should have picked at team Lydne.
Whenever I try to choose an all time great team I get confused and end up with me opening.
Both the batting and the bowling.
me at 6 just about batting just about bowling but a decent fielder
Jack of all trades master of none, hey.
Talking about great ODI batsmen.
Zaheer Abbass wasn't too shabby was he.
M Waugh
Gilchrist
V Richards
Inzamam
Bevan
S Waugh
Botham
Akram
Mushtaq
Garner
McGrath
Not based on Stats - just based on how I feel tonight - trying to take a bit of a different angle - It may be different tomorrow - but Id put that team against the team of superstars anyday
I use to love watching Mark Waugh bat. He had a fine world cup in 96 from what I remember.
1.Sachin
2.Gilchrist
3.Viv
4.Lara
5.Mark Waugh
6.Bevan
7.Freddy
8.Akram
9.Warne
10.Ambrose - in any all time team just because of how cool he is.
11.Murili
Ganguly or Haynes
Tendulkar
Richards
Ponting
Kallis
Bevan
Dhoni
Akram
McGrath
Klusener
Murali
In the original XI posted by the author, I would like to suggest one replacement:
Ganguly for Lara
As great a Test player Lara was, he wasn't as good as Ganguly who scored a 1000 runs more than Lara from just 11 extra innings, at a better average and century count.
What's more, Ganguly was an exemplary captain who led India to the final of the World Cup in2003 with a motley bunch of bowlers.
On the contrary, Lara failed to lead WI to anything substantial in world cups, even when they were a strong side- case in point the 1999 World Cup wherein WI bowlers destroyed opposition batsmen but WI batsmen like Lara and Chanderpaul failed to come to the party.
Lara barely managed 100 runs in the tournament.
Of course you could call it a one-off occurrence but I just wanted to mention this.
Besides, Ganguly was a handy seamer who picked vital wickets at an excellent average.
So I would say Ganguly would fit in better in that spot than Lara.
Ganguly is a good shout.
I think he did have more success as an opener though.
Saying that he was a superb ODI allrounder, so I will change that position.
How about Andrew Symonds as a middle-order batsman/bowling option?
In place of who, Ganguly?
Besides he was a bit incosistent from what I remember.
Hoggy
Would you now if the main stand at Edgbaston is finished what with you being a Bears fan?
