Don. Throwing walker in at the deep end didn't do him any harm... Also I am not unhappy with the signing as long as we don't pay over the odds and eat into our budget for our priority position which is striker x 2 and a back up winger.
Yeh i agree chronic, but not everyone is going to be like Walker. I'm not dismissing Caulker at all mate, i think he will be great but as 1st choice right now? Come on mate. He needs to work his way into the team and what better way to learn off Kaboul and Vertonghen?
Hengy I don't mind loaning caulker out again but he has said he wants to come back. Him sitting on our bench is stunting his development
Vertonghen can cover left back too I believe so he would be useful as a utility man as well

Exactly chronic, theres lot's of positives from signing this vertonghen mate.
caulker's at about the same level of experience as livermore and walker were when they came into the team.
i feel quite strongly that we need to show faith in the young quality players which we select to put through the production line towards first team football.
i am not a fan of developing a player, the player doing all he reasonably can throughout that process, and then buying some foreign player to put stright into the team.
for me caulker needs to be given a chance, whether we buy someone else or not.
regarding unvini, it looks like he was only on loan for this season. wikipedia says that we have an option to buy him, but i havent heard much talk about this happening. one regaulr youth team spectator was saying a few months back that he didnt look all that. maybe we should discount this guy from the equation.
If a quality cb isn't priority after the fiasco of spending most of the season playing half fit CB then I don't know what is!
I will say this. Whether vertonghen flops or not (hopefully he doesn't!!!!!) I am very pleased to see us being busy and proactive early in the Market for once

utility man / club legend.
one or the other anyway

I agree with chronic in that we desperately need a top class striker BUT we also desperately need a King replacement. I'm sorry but if we want to achieve something next season, we won't do that with half fit 33 year old crocks Gallas, King and Nelsen in defence A centre back is a priority and i'm praying this deal does come off, then we move onto other targets.
I know King is not 33 but you get my drift.
Chronic have no choice as levy dosent want to risk coming fourth again and another English team dropping out and winning it!
We need to aim top 3 from now on not top 4
Hengy. We have caulker back now
king isnt even an option is he ?. he surely wont play for us again.
the sight of him hobbling round the pitch and barely able to contribute to the game at all towards the end of the season, with a fully fit khumalo sitting on the bench is probably the 2nd most stupid thing ive ever seen on a football pitch, with the first being parker coming on instead of defoe against aston villa.
Bring caulks back for sure...but not straight...unless he really shines in pre-season....!!!!
Likewise if this vert walks the walk...then him and KaBOOM....

If we sign vertonghen we have about 9 Cbs. Bassong is back too remember. I am not convinced we will shift 4 of them leaving us with 5
Henry I agree we have to keep gallas
Bassong neilson and khumalo sold
King retired

Hengy you make it sound so easy. If it was that easy we would still have bentley rotting. Nelsens contract is up btw. He was only on a 6 month deal
Khumalo
==========
any able bodied person under the age of 40 would have been more useful than ledley in his last few games.

Bassong is easily good enough to play for at least 10 of the prem teams!
khumalo sure some African team would have him back weren't he there captain or something
I think we should sign this young lad:
