He had to work for a team who selled their best in Valencia, Palacios, Nzogbia...
He is not our manager yet. I'm more interested in the role of "director of football" or whatever. This will tell us the type of philosophy the club will play to - Spanish which I think we are closer to (reserve/academy staff - spanish) or Dutch.
Martinez or anybody else will be a "coach" setting up the team to play in a certain way.
I'm not the spelling police type but selled made me giggle
Lucas.
He gave Swansea the baseline to succeed, the majority of the squad, the footballing philosophy, the mentality throughout the club, all that was brought in by him.
Also, just look at Wigan's team, look at it! It's still in the best domestic league in Britain.
That enough talent for a man who's not even 40?

No, it isn't.
He's a shiite manager. We all know it deep down.
Sorry I must admit that spelling was terrible!
Update, Capello has snubbed us.
he plays very attacking football
if we have the right players we'll do very well
if not we'll become what Spurs were for a couple of decades
Guys i think that Martinez will do well. Not to forget that Lucas will be back and I'm sure the owners will put at least 40 million on the table as transfer budget.
I support any manager of liverpool football club,i did with shankley, paisley, even souey and roy,LONG LIVE LFC.
This is what I mean about clouded judgements. Yes, they were great results.
So why couldn't they produce those in the other 85% of the season?

That's a very valid point RAP and one I hope FSG have looked at. I think one of Wigan's biggest issues was they poor form of their strikers (A pain we felt!). They were playing some nice stuff but not scoring regularry enough and the defense was dodgy to say the least.
Martinez switched to the 3 at the back system after Xmas and the results improved.
You can look at this 2 ways, 1) A great piece of management by Martinez or 2) He got lucky to stumble across this style and it worked (That has been said of Rafa putting Gerrard behind Torres, that he got lucky he was forced to play it one day and it worked (I don't agree))
Martinez is a risk and there are candidates out there who on paper are certainly better options but I think he's a risk worth taking. I don't expect him to be instantly successful and actually think we may start the season with not great results but I hope with the players at his disposal in comparison to Wigan, and if Clarke remains on that we wont concede too many while they tinker and get the attacking thing going.

Just over two months ago dynamite mouth Dave Whelan was running to the press to tell them he wanted a meeting with martinez to discuss team selection and performance.
Now I'm a firm believer in giving a manager a chance and whoever gets the job will get 100% support from me. However, if this appointment is made it has a lot of risk attached. It's an appointment that FSG have to get right and failure to reach the top 4 would appear for them to be a sackable offence, given the precedent they have set and the ruthlessness they are renowned for.
The delusion on here is absolutely incredible. Martinez is rubbish. His Wigan team were whipping boys for most of the season until their purple patch. Why wud anyone think he cud get us into top 4??? This logic that we've a great defence therefore Martinez style will work is beyond laughable. I keep having to repeat myself... Steve Bruce had Wigan in 10th place and cosy in the prem. Martinez has struggled ever since Ffs!!!!
thats it guys, shoot the man down before he has got the job, will do the confidence of him and the players the world of good. Maybe if we back him and team no matter what, it will have a positive influence on the team.
Whoever gets the job should be given our support. My concerns are what the owners will do if results don't immediately meet their expectations. There will be fans who are quick to turn on him if results are initially poor, but I don't see this as another Hodgson scenario.
Hodgson was a yes man hired by two figures of hate which was a millstone around his neck before the team had kicked a ball.
