How can you call up a player who retired from international duty?
What don't United fans get about Carrick telling the FA months ago to stick the national team up their rears??
Carrick said he wouldn't be in the standby squad, which would mean he was 5/6th choice CM have join up with the squad and only go to the tournament if someone got injured. Which is understandable considering his age and the fact that he has been the best and most consistent English CM this season.
He should be a potential starter not on the standby list. Had the FA recognised this he would not have snubbed them.
we dont get that for the last 6 years in which carrick has won 4 premier league titles and played in 3 european cup finals that gareth barry still gets picked ahead of him, eventually it must pi55 you off royally
No, Carrick asked not to be selected for any squads months ago. He said he didn't want to go round Europe warming benches. This had nothing to do with stand by lists. Hodgson was told Carrick was unavailable for selection. At all.
At the end of the day it was Carricks decision, so stop blaming Hodgson.
As soon as Capello left Carrick could have contacted the FA and asked to be considered again. He didn't so wasn't.
Get over it.
wow... gareth effing barry benches carrick. carrick would bench him in any team, well except the english team.
Barry the current title winner?
If he was benched it would be an insult to him as a champion, and he will probably quit England in a strop.

And when carrick was getting to 3 cl finals, winning 5 league titles and not once finishing less than a point below the league champions and still being left out, who was that an insult to? I am thinking common sense. As your opinion proves, common sense may not be that common.
Is this the same carrick that got tons of abuse from man u fans?

Lol. I can only imagine the insult barry would get in our team.
redastomatoes,
You obviously didn't get the sarcasm.
In which of his 22 appearances for England did Carrick make himself undroppable?
And didn't he pull out of an England squad due to injury then play for United?
I have no problem with Barry's performances for city, have you seen him play more than I have?
No
My question still stands is this the carrick mocked an abused by some united fans called things like the crab!

that was sarcasm? That always works like a charm on message boards.
Yet those with all those caps have been so impressive? Pls there is not escuse for this joke. He actually brought back the exact set of players who have failed for over a decade. Seeing something fail and continue repeating it, there is a definition of something....

Like i said, if barry was on this team he will probably get mocked even worse. Only fools mock carrick on our team. If you check the votes done for player of the yr, you'll see that carrick was voted higher than rooney.

Yeah, plastic fans. Don't tar us all with the same brush, Carrick has been an important player for us since the day he signed for us. He's helped this side win titles and the CL. He's probably the most underrated footballer right now.
I have been impressed with carrick, don't mistake that point, Arab mate just answering the idiot mocking Barry.
I'm sorry, but there are two or three things obvious about England after watching tonight.
First, your style has gone back 20 years with Carrol playing - tall, lumbering, slow, no technical ability but he just makes your players play long balls all the time.
Second, this will be more controversial and unpopular, Frank Lampard is still better than any of the other midfielders on show today and Gerrard and Lampard, both over 30, are still the only two quality central midfielders in England. Barry is just clueless. And before you talk about City, Yaya Toure is the reason for City's midfileld dominance.
Third, don't you have a real right sided defender? You have no balance by playing Jones (I think his name is)at right back.
Finally, too many workers but no substance or style. Players like Milner may be appreciated in England for their tenacity but they offer very little in international football. I'm not saying he's a bad player but you are either going to play a winger or not, playing a 'defensive winger' is an anomoly, isn't it?

This is just Royball
Carrick crumbles in the face of a big game as witnessed twice against Barca.
Not sure if anyone mentioned this but Carrick Ruled himself out... he did not want to be selected...

That's not quite true.
He let the FA know he didn't want to be a back up player at this stage of his career, especially as it's been that way for years. If Hodgson had wanted to choose him ahead of the likes of Scott Parker, which should be a no brainer, or Milner or Barry he would have happily played.
Hodgson then said he didn't want to put Carrick on stand by after his request to the FA, so doesnt sound like he was close to making the core part of the squad anyway.
