To give an honest answer to this question i find it very hard to predict how we will get on at the Euro Finals.
There is no question that we are a weaker side than all 3 sides (Croatia, Spain & Italy).
I think One wine One draw and One defeat would be the best we can hope for. And to achive this set of results we will need to perform at our very best.
Heart says we will make it out of the group but head says no.
I do expect us to take at least a point off both Croatia and Italy but realistically can't see us taking anything off of Spain. They are simply too good
As an ROI fan i am over the moon that we have managed to reach the finals of a major tournament for the first time.
In a funny way i won't be as nervous watching any of our matches at the Finals as i was say watching some of our group matches in the qualifiers.
That said the way Trapatonni has us set up and the fact that the squad is buzzing at the moment means that any team that beats us (including Spain) will have to really grind us down to do it
Yeah definitely. Saw you were 13 games upbeaten earlier. I don't care who you have played, that's momentum and it can take you a long way. I see you getting 4 points too. And i think that might just be enough. Hopefully it will be. The more teams whom i watch and actually am genuinely interested in, the better. Believe me, i was almost in tears after that Spain shoot out in 2002! How poetic would it be if you beat them 1 nil this time around with a last minute Robbie Keane penalty?!
Cheers for the good luck messages Stevie
I was a 10 year old when NIreland played in the 1982 Wc Finals in Spain and i can clearly remember jumping around the living room with my other brothers and my father when Armstrong scored the winner against Spain.
So its nice when we put our rivalries aside and say fair play to the others team when they make the big step and qualify for a major finals
Meant to say in one of my previous posts "first time Ireland have qualified for a major tournament in 10 years" !
I still remember studying for my GCSEs by getting up at dawn to watch Ireland play Germany lol. They had a voluntary study class and i was the only one who didn't turn up. Teacher was raging but i had my priorities right!
Ireland 2-1 Croatia.
Spain 3-0 Ireland.
Italy 0-0 Ireland.
Four points and negative two goal difference.
Yeah the Spain match could be crucial. Assuming they get 3 wins, it's damage limitation but Ireland are a hard team to beat and i can't see them losing 3 nil.

its a big ask to qualify ..but going in as underdogs is the way we do it...
but i dont know why we are being written off against the italians...we have beaten them and drawn with them on numerous occasions
Yeah your record against them is good. And i would strongly fancy Trap to mastermind a result against them.
My expectations are 4 points at least but I will be very disappointed if we go into our final group game against Italy not still in with a chance of a quarter finals spot. We need a positive result in out first game. And if we get to the quater finals I don't fear England or France ( our players should be dreaming of that game) in the quarter if its them we meet
I always fear the worst. Even a draw against Croatia could just be the precursor for a big loss against Spain that would probably put us in a bad position for Italy. Not expecting a lot as our players are not that great.
Hmmm!!! A wum maybe!!! Account just set up today Yes our players are not that great but still good enough to qualify for the Euro Finals !!
My account was set up over a year ago. Take it you weren't referring to me because this article isn't a wum, I can assure you.
