And thats why you lot don't win international tournaments.
And I really feel for the talented kids coming through. They stand no chance.
Tell me about it
A man I know is an agent. First question he always gets asked about lads on his books is how tall they are. Not one mention of how skilfull or confident with the ball his lads are.
Sad times...
The most talented youngsters do still make it through.
Bar the odd few, but that can possibly be put down to attitude.
Even the coaches were bellowing "get rid of it".

This is the single most annoying line I've ever heard when training. I was a defensive mid, whenever I played the short pass my coach would bellow at me to hoof it down the pitch
"The most talented youngsters do still make it through. "
Many slip through the net though.
And I don't blame them.
Personally, I feel like quitting football after today. It's just one of those games.
So frustrating as well as you know you have more to your game.
But I was trying to pass the ball around, and all I hear is "pressure, PRESSURE HIM".
They want you to aimlessly run around.
You had a trial at 21? Are you sure you weren't at Luton Criminal Court?
Dubbed, I think you're too old to make tbh.
Never seen or heard of anyone who's made it after 18 (bar Wrighty).
"Dubbed, I think you're too old to make tbh. "
Might be so. Yes.
But you never know.
My point isn't that though. How is one supposed to do anything in a system for headless chickens?
At least in Scotland the coaches are now starting to try and move away from hoofing and try get our youngsters to now pass and move. Which is a very good sign for me and my fellow Scots. I feel sorry for you guys as it doesn't seem like you are going to move away from hoof ball anytime soon.
Me aside. I played shocking.
The Italian kid was quality. They turned him down, and opted for some run of the mill grafter.
Nonsense, hardly any slip through the net.
If you're the best at your level you will be taken to a higher level. Knowing someone can be important at a young age though. Main reasons for talented youngsters not making it that should are injuries and attitude.
Otherwise the most talented youngsters almost always make it
Pressure is not aimless. They do not want you to run around aimlessly.
If you're not good enough to shine amongst talentless players you've no chance of shining at a higher level.
I thought Southgate was addressing this issue and changing the system so that younger players play on smaller pitches, with smaller goals and fewer players per team
Hope it works out
I know what you mean. I used to play for an 11 aside team and I was a RB/CB. Whenever I tried playing the ball into midfield instead of hoofing it, the manager would have a right old go at me.
I'm a striker and he played me at CB ffs
Wow, I'm genuinely amazed you could have trials so old. I thought if you hadn't made it by the time you were 16/17 that was that. For what it's worth I think mentality is the most important thing. If you really want to make it, you can and will regardless of whatever shortcomings you have. I look at players going to The Euros with ROI, players like Glen Whelan and Keith Andrews and I wonder what might have happened if I'd been more driven. Keep working at it man and you can definitely still make it.
But tbf having played for U14 and U15 sides, the players with the best technique usually do make the best team
Although there is still the issue of physique overruling at times as well
No offence, but you must have been one god awful striker Kamran
I'd like to play footy with some of the lads on here one day, I'd tear you guys a new one
I'm a great finisher
"Nonsense, hardly any slip through the net. "
Tis absolute dross.
I've witnessed fhis first hand countless of times (not with me, other players).
"If you're the best at your level you will be taken to a higher level. Knowing someone can be important at a young age though. Main reasons for talented youngsters not making it that should are injuries and attitude."
Yes you make a valid point about injuries and in particular attitude.
"Otherwise the most talented youngsters almost always make it "
Bull.
"Pressure is not aimless. They do not want you to run around aimlessly. "
Obviously pressure is necessary. Common sense. But the pressure they're on about, is running around all the time.
They pick players based on that. Hard work.
"If you're not good enough to shine amongst talentless players you've no chance of shining at a higher level."
Once again, false. Talentless players can drag a player down. Use your brain.
And the system is improving
Even when playing during lunch breaks at school, you notice how players who are most gifted always stand out
"No offence, but you must have been one god awful striker Kamran"

Nah, I was actually one of the best players in the team, I even done well at CB, I just didn't enjoy playing there.
I'm a good striker, I drop back, help the midfield out, make assists, score goals etc.
I've never missed a penalty in an official match
