He's young but he just looks too reluctant at doing anything positive. Always taking the safe option but we all know what BR demands from his midfield so they will no hiding places for him next season.

Henderson is a player with potential who I believe can fit in with the new manager ethos.

I'm unsure that others will be able.to Spearing and Adam to name two, maybe even our captain unless he plays a more advanced role.

Adam just simply isn't mobile enough to operate as a midfielder in BRs set up.

I'd all but given up on Henderson until Rodgers was appointed.

With how bereft of confidence he's looked, there's no guarantee that he'll improve much, but when you consider that he does keep the ball, he is athletic and mobile, and he has on occasion shown an eye for a through ball and some nice one-touch passing, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that Rodgers could coax some influence from him.

I felt that one of the biggest problems under Kenny was a lack of direction. He wanted us to be positive, but we spent the majority of the season with players like Downing, Henderson, Enrique etc looking like they didn't quite know what their function was in attack. I'm 99% certain that this won't happen under Rodgers; he seems to have a comprehensive vision of what he wants from each player, whether it's offensively or defensively, with the ball or without the ball.

For all that Kenny meant well, and for all that he wanted us to attack, when you watched us consistently ponder in the final third and toss hopeless crosses in, you couldn't quite shake the feeling that Kenny's outlook was too vague. He didn't look like he'd ever taken aside Henderson, Downing or other players and explained what he wanted from them when we were going forward, which would be backed up by his continuous "we were unlucky/we'll just keep doing what we're doing" statements after poor results.

One of the reasons I've been so excited about Rodgers is that his tactical vision is comprehensive and covers every position, so I think certain players could benefit from knowing exactly what they're supposed to be doing. There are obvious question marks over Downing and Henderson's quality for a club that wants to be amongst the cream of the league, but I'm not having this view that what they showed in their first season is indicitave of their overall quality.

I'd back Rodgers to get improved form out of Henderson.

Henderson will be class over the coming years.

Spearing - End of the road, should be sold.

Adam - Not mobile enough, very slow, should be sold.

Lucas - Quality.

Gerrard - Top quality, plenty of years left.

Shelvey - Will never cut it at LFC, time to move him on.

Aqualani - Very classy player, hope he decides to give it a go this year.

Cole - Excellent talent, just unable to perform for LFC, shame, might get sold.

Downing - A top talent waiting to deliver, give him one more season.

Bellamy - A fantastic player to bring on from the bench.

Sterling - Short cameos end of last season, impressed, big things waiting to happen.

Suso - Great player (hopefully) needs a season on loan.

There you go our midfield (inc of wingers/strikers adapted).

Still need 1 or 2 more - Sigurdsson / Erikssen ? ? ? ?

Me too. He's a good player but has been unsure of what's expected of him and rather cowed by SG trying to do everything. Hopefully, BR will sort it.

Resurrection Is Nigh: Are you serious about Shelvey?! For his age, I think he has serious potential-if he's at the same level when he gets to Spearing's age-certainly move him on-but were Gerrard and Lampard much better at the same age than he is now?

comment by thepadman - if Suarez is El Pistolero then Carroll shall be El Bulldozero (U5621)

I am completely serious.

I've seen nothing of Shelvey that say's to me quality.

Shelvey is quality and to say what you have said gives you zero credability.

I think Shelvey will be given a chance by Rodgers, and could be a good squad player.

He's very comfortable on the ball and has shown (although probably not enough) that his passing can be impressive. With that in mind, I had him pegged as a relatively deep-sitting playmaker, but I was really impressed with him as an attacking midfielder supporting Carroll at Ewood Park, he looked dynamic and had a confidence that not many of our players had when they were on the ball in the final third.

He has a good all-round game and doesn't mind closing down; again this comes down to the fact that he's a young, raw central midfielder upon whom Rodgers will be working extensively to impress his ideas and philosophy. He's got potential, I think BR will like him, and I think he'll get a decent handful of starts.

You obviously didn't watch Lampard at West Ham which earned him his big move to Chelsea

Suso and Sterling are so young, it's hard to say how they will develop. I hope Rodgers gives them a chance. It would be great if we could develop at least one top quality player from through the academy, like we used to quite often.

I agree Spearing is just cack, but Shelvey has promise and I'd like to see him given a chance too!

Yeah Shelvey actually wanted to try and get in the box and help Carroll out, something which Henderson and Adam rarely did!

@Chelseamf

Shelvey is 20, Lampard movede to Chelsea at 23..if Shelvey had as much first team football as Lampard had I reckon they'd probably be similar in standard? This is all hypothetical of course as Lampard is one of the best English midfield players of the last 20 years; but the point I'm trying to make is Shelvey has a lot of potential and it's ludicrous to write him off at this stage!
