I looked at your team yesterday and I saw so many players that i've never heard of and I didn't even know Roy Carroll was still around
What happened to Chris Baird, Chris Brunt, Johnny Evans, McAuley, Hughes. They are all good player but i didnt notice any of them in the squad
They all withdrew for a variety of reasons. And that's where the problem lies. Arranging that friendly after the season had ended was ridiculous. It really wasn't fair on those who participated. I'm sure our full strength team would have struggled against the Dutch when they were in such imperious form but at least it would have been a worthwhile exercise. It would have given the manager chance to put his potential World Cup qualifiers team on the pitch at least.
Oh right, yeah it would have made much more sense for you if you could play the guys who would actually play in the qualifiers. Although, i don't really see the use in playing Netherlands away, theres such a big gulf in class it's not gonna benefit anyone really, If you look at Netherlands group for the Euro's it's pretty hard and playing your guys second string isn't gonna prepare them. Also, for Northern Ireland, whats the use in playing such a difficult team theres no competition in it
Yeah i did think about it from the Dutch perspective as well and didn't see how that would benefit them ahead of a major tournament in the group of death. It might boost confidence levels a little but it isn't the test they needed. Strange.
I guess the Dutch were just keeping their players ticking over, they'd already lost to Bulgaria and beaten Slovakia in the previous week so a nice easy win was probably a perfect send off for them.
Maybe this "friendly" game is another argument in favour of "ONE" Irish football team????

..............................................................................
Would this "one" Ireland football team be the same as the "one" Ireland rugby team where the N.I born players and fans stand under the tri-colour and are bombarded with the soldiers song lol..................

i feel sorry for you and i dont feel sorry for you...
northern ireland are now firmly in a period of transition just like we went under steve staunton .....and us paddies know how the sting feels to be absolutely useless like you boys are now.........thats why i feel sorry for ye

Personally I think this could be the start of something big for the reds....................

but..hes got my support and i hope im proven wrong
Bat out of hell
I can assure you that i wasn't one of those knocking you. But I appreciate the healthy rivalry we have.
As for the all Ireland team, i love going to Windsor and cheering our lads on. I would definitely cheer on an all Ireland team, should it come about but i prefer things as they are now.

Good on you, Old Son!

Why does the tri-colour and soldier song offend people from ulster?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Because everybody in this godforsaken place loves to get offended on every occasion possible
The tricolour and soldier song do not offend me. But i don't consider them as my flag or anthem. I do respect them though.
We were let down big time by the IFA
Anyone with a brain could have forseen that result.
At one stage I thought my prediction of 47-0 would be on the cards.
One of my sons who was at the game tells me that the Dutch supporters are not confident with their team, are very downbeat and dont expect to do well.
Just as well they dont support our wee team.

They'd have to do it the hard way to win it, they're in the proverbial group of death and the team that finishes 2nd in that group will more than likely have to play a strong Russian team in the quarter finals.
The IFA just grabbed the money playing Holland....
In doing so they handed poor Micky O and hiding to nothing and a terrible start to his campaign.
I've read a few posters moaning it was a C team but only 4 or 5 regulars were missing and the legend that is Pat McCourt was only good enough to make the bench? Anyways lads tune in this Sunday to a big game and if you squint hard enough those boys in green could be your boys in green....only much better....
im gonna miss hoses bitterness lol....................
Strangely, whilst the IFA have undeniably let the new boss down, there is another way to look at it.
We were never likely to qualify anyway but all expectations are now gone. Things only can get better. The boss still has the support of the fans and may even now have more sympathy for the shambles he's taken on.
Things really only can get better, the pressure is off and this gives the new man a chance to just go centuries business. I like how he conducts himself, i like his style of play and I look forward to seeing how things develop.
