Doubt it, seeing as he has called up two other defenders since naming that squad.
Not signs of regret, tbh.

Richards can play as a RB, CB or even further upfield and has huge pace and great heading ability.

Unfortunately he's not a Liverpool player.

Hodgson probably paid Mertens to do it just so he can get another Liverpool player in the squad.

I'm surprised he hasn't tried to coax Phil Neal out of retirement.

Richards, Carrick and Rio should not only just be on the plane, but they should be in the starting 11.

With the Rio/Terry situation, you can kinda understand one had to go. Should have been the R_ac15t mind.

But Hodgson has no excuse with Richards and Carrick. Clearly two of the best players we have for their own positions.

I reckon he'll be sacked if we crash and burn. He's been foolish leaving out so many good players.

I don't think just including Richards would solve everything..

Well he has. Carrick phoned the FA a long time ago and told them he is not to be considered for selection any more.

Why do Man utd fans keep saying Carrick should be in? He did nothing special in his 22 appearances for England, then threw a paddy about not starting and quit.

Even the most biased Liverpool fan must be amazed that Johnson and Henderson got in, in front of Richards and Carrick.

Why would Liverpool fans be amazed Henderson, an avaliable player, is picked over the unavailable Carrick?

From what I have seen Martin Kelly looks a better RB much better defender

A new manager should mean a fresh start for everyone, Capello ignored Richards and to a lesser extent, Carrick. Surely Woy should have asessed the pair of them on the merits of last season.

Carrick made himself unavailable as he wasn't first choice. He didn't want to be bench fodder.

And when he has had a better season than every midfielder on the plane....at his age I don't blame him.

He's been better this season than every midfielder named in the original squad and I include Gerrard in that.

England's loss is United's gain anyway.

Boris, if Carrick wanted to be considered it should be his call to the FA not the other way round.

Stretford - he quit ages ago. This season has little to do with it. Plus you have to consider his England form, where he did little to make Capello pick him.

Personally, I would be more than happy if no City players were involved in any team this summer and had a decent break instead.
I do wonder why Hodgson is picking so many Liverpool players when those at his disposal when he was the manager seemed not to deliver for him.

Spot on.

At least there's an oppertunity for Lescott and Jagielka to play together at CB though, hope he goes for that, Lescott plays better with someone he is used to and Jagielka is that. (although I highly doubt this will happen)

Squad doesn't seem to follow much logic, surely it's not based on individuals respective seasons as the main input is from the club that finished 8th, but hey ho we will see.

All I know is if England crash out of the group, the vitriol towards Hodgeson will be a lot more fierce than Kean got
I am annoyed he's overlooked Richards because I want England to do well! I will cheer them on either way

posted on 3/6/12

Cheer them on from the pub by the way! If you think I'm going over there you've got another think coming....them fùckers be crazy

Boris is spot on here, it beggars belief that Richards isn't in the squad. What does he have to do?

Words fail me with this, how many games has Kelly played for what has been a poor Liverpool team this season and they have 5 players in the squad....thank god Adam is Scottish!!

Amen to that.

Probably the worst England squad since the days of Carlton Palmer under the turnip.

We've got no chance. Any further than the group stage should be seen as a huge success.

If Johnson gets injured he'll regret not taking Richards.

Carrick is mediocre and not suited to England anyway.
