there is one subtle twist
his reasoning was 'why should I take a spot from a younger up and coming player when I'm not even going to play. It would be better if they took the spot'
But I admit the sentiment was similar. He said he didn't want to be a bench player.
Good point. No doubt they will try to come up with a way to justify this situation whilst still condemning Carragher though.
I honestly dont know what the problem is, its a 3 week tourno and rio is dodgy with his fitness, whats the big deal? What did rio tweet....what reasons??
well heres a few:
Injury prone
Too old
Attitiude
Team personel problems
Nuff said!!
slight difference with carra though, he didn't say anything until he retired from international football, whereas rio has undermined everyone.
Don't get me wrong, i didn't agree with what carra did either, i don't think anyone should ever retire from international duty unless for sever injury reasons.

There will also be random drug testing.
We need someone there who'll turn up and not make lame excuses
I'm sure I remember that at the time, Carragher was in the squad and there was an injury, but instead of promoting Carragher to the first team, McLaren brought in another player and put him in instead. I don't think anyone could blame Carragher for retiring (except that helmet Durham on talkcack) as it was clear the manager didn't have confidence in him.
If he was in the squad, he should've been next in line for the first team due to injuries, calling someone else up to 'leapfrog' him was just a smack in the face.
