You played negative football and concentrated on defending more than attacking.

Imagine a CB pairing of Kompany and Koscielny. That would be brilliant.

United for me. That said, it depends on how Vidic comes back from injury. Ferdinand is still a classy defender IMO.

Kompany is world class, but Lescott is an average defender, City definitely need an upgrade.

Koscielny is a top, top centre half. Vermaelen on the other hand is good, but nothing more. Same goes for Cahill, and Terry blows too hot and cold for me.

Agger and Skrtel were just made to look good at the start of the season by Dalglish's negative tactics, I don't rate them too highly. Decent defenders, that's all.

Out of the options listed it has to be the Liverpool pair, if vidic does come back as good as before then that pair would have a strong case, but by sept 1st I expect it to be Kompany and whoever city splash the cash on to partner him

I like my centre backs to be good footballers as well as good defenders.

Players like Vidic, Skrtel etc aren't great footballers. They just hoof the ball clear at every given opportunity.

Koscielny, Kompany, Luiz etc are good footballers. They have good technical ability and they can pass the ball out from defence.
