The poor lad looked totally confused.
It turned out he was one of their better players.
I remember the next home league game when the lady fan had a placard with "Alan's mum" written on it and an arrow pointing down to her....
Thought that was a very funny evening.
It was almost as if they'd forgotten to bring their subs with them and they'd got some guy out of the crowd - "What's your name?" "Alan."
Even as a United fan I found it hilarious. Good to see some humour and good natured banter at matches!
My missus was asking me why we were cheering Alan on, I really couldn't give her an answer it was just a really mad moment ALAN ALAN
God knows what he thought of it.
The best bit was him sending a personal Xmas card to the club saying he hoped to play us again in the near future
