Don't know much about this kid - likely to warm the bench TBH.

DJ must be looking now at the midfield and up front. Poss 1 x CH needed

IMO we need 2 x more midfielders, a winger and one more striker if, as expected COG goes.

Quite like to see Lowe given a run in the team as I think he can score goals in the Champ but I just don't think he is in Jones's plans.

Oh no!!! You don't know what you've started by asking for opinions about Joe Mattock and posting it on the Leicester board.

I'll stick to the football side.

He burst into the Leicester team as a very promising 17 year old. I think he'd represented England at every level up to U21. However, he never really improved.

He's got a decent left foot, which makes his service from the left reasonable. He's very one paced and pretty ordinary defensively. I would say mid table Championship is his level as he's too slow for the Premier League.

Don't go there!

He is persona non grata in Leicester.
Hitler would get a warmer reception!

I;ll talk about his football side, Was quite promising before his move to WBA, a pretty solid left back, gets stuck into the tackle well but is quite slow and will get found out by a decent winger. Championship level at best.

Well done on your promotion and good luck for the new season

Meanwhile, on the other side of the city:

Defender Connor Brown has turned his back on last season's League One contenders Sheffield United, opting rather to join Oldham Athletic

Joe Mattock IS a half decent championship defender and no more

Joe Mattock THINKS he's the greatest left back err to live!

As said above, he's ok defensively and going forward but not a master at either. He lacks pace which doesn't help but as much a I dislike him, he's good enough for this level.

Sounds like he could have been a great player but got too arrogant and greedy. Hopefully Jones will put him back on track to get the best out of him then. He's got time on his side at 22 anyway if he can knuckle down, work hard and listen to coaches.

We all know that Wednesday will be playing Leicester on the opening day.

joe Mattock is public enemy no1 in Leicestershire, as stated above he burst into the first team and flourished as we won League 1 a few years back, but wanted to play for a bigger club and went to West Bromwich Albion, and with all due respect to the Baggies and their fans, its hardly a bigger club than ours, yes they play in a higher division, but he also got into a scrape or two on a night out in Leicester, needless to say the Leicester fans love to hate the guy and berate him every oppertunity we get.

He failed to live up to promise at WBA, and went on loan to Sheffield United and made his debut against us, then he went on loan to Portsmouth and made his debut at Fratton Park against us too. Then he went on loan at Brighton, and yes you guessed it made his debut against us again.
He must love playing against us lot, After all he is a Leicester lad, but is still public enemy no 1.

Im sure he will do a decent job for you, and well done on beating your rivals to promotion, it doesnt get much better than that,
See you in august

True, but only because Hitler gets cut some slack in view of the unban improvement programme he insituted in Coventry.

see your not his biggest fans off the pitch but thanks for the opinions on it.

I think he'll be our first choice left back and the consensus on here on other boards is that he is great going forward, but possibly suspect at the back.

Brighton fans said he's the best left back they've had for a while and gutted to lose him.

I don't think you can wholly trust Leicester fans' evaluation of his playing prowess – there was a faintly Stalinist revision of views on his quality when he left the club in a rather impolite manner. So you're probably better off asking Baggies fans what they made of him.

The other thing Foxes have against him is his conviction (after joining WBA) for violence against four people in a Leicester nightclub – two of them women. Lack of anger control, on top of the arrogance, are worrying traits. You will need to cross your fingers that he has been receiving some sort of psychological tutoring. If so, he is surely young enough to turn his career around.

Hmm..sounds a complete Toowat to me, like you say lets hope he's turned his life around. Im also a tad suprised that MM has let him back in given the manner in which he left, maybe he feels that he was young and stupid at the time...who knows

Mattock started his career as a very promising, talented young man who has failed to live up to his reputation on the pitch, and developed an ugly reputation off it. He has some qualities - his left foot is fantastic, and he can attack full backs. His weaknesses are that he is slow and very weak. There is still some talent in there without doubt, but whether it's worth all the inevitable hassle is another discussion.

I trust DJ on his judgement regarding how good players are, just hope the lad has grown up off it Thanks for your insight Foxello and all the best of luck for the coming season, hope we both finish somewhere near the play off's but I'll be happy with consolidation first...not that it will be good enough for Milan of course

posted on 11/6/12

Maybe the recent injuries and time away from regular first team football he's endured will have knocked some sense and humility into him. I'd say he's certainly good enough for a club who are content with staying up/upper mid-table, but he'll never be good enough for a promotion chasing/winning team.

As for our seasons, I think we'll both be around the 12th to 15th mark but neither of us will be involved in a relegation battle.

posted on 11/6/12

Well Id settle for that but you know MM and his itchiness for instant success, not like thats a bad thing of course . Hope you do well this coming season anyways

Mattock will be a squad player - Reda will be the 1st choice. There is a lot of compy at the moment.

I also think Reynolds will start to play under Jones...A decent player, just arrived at the wrong time.

posted on 11/6/12

That's funny Foxello, as he went up in the Baggies promotion season a few years back.

Nah Reynolds is terrible, and Mattock will be the first choice. He wouldn't have come here to be content with a squad place.

posted on 12/6/12

To be fair MASSIVE, what player does sign for a club to be content with being only a squad player?

The Championship....etc

Sadly Milan has a habit of promising things he can't deliver He promised us we'd be in the Premier League within 3 years. 5 years and one day trip to League One later.....

"Im also a tad suprised that MM has let him back in given the manner in which he left"

That's actually a really good point. The general consensus was that Mattock had let down everyone at the club and was sold ASAP. Yet Mandaric is now prepared to allow Dave Jones to sign him.

There have been suggestions that MM and NP were not bosom buddies, especially with Lee Hoos (ex CE) stirring up trouble in the background. Maybe MM actually sympathised with Mattock and understood his desire to join a club who had a better chance of being promoted, at least in the short term. Whether it's worked out for Mattock in the long term is debatable, although he was right - WBA were promoted and have survived, comfortably, 2 seasons in the PL.

But I couldn't possibly say anything bad about NP as it is a lynching offence on the LCFC section of the forum......

So.....whens Gardner signing then???

Well its the same here to be fair given that he's a legend around these parts too.

Also, MM did a simular thing with Meggy, he left you after 6 weeks to join Bolton, which MM wasnt pleased about, then he appoints him as our manager....then sacks him a day after beating the pigs...whilst in 3rd, Mattock, watch out sunny jim
