I commented on one of your comments elsewhere Insidious asking you if this tackle was being used in S/L......

Up until last week in the NRL authorities were un-able to act because it was not classed as an illegal tackle.......all this has changed now for good reason.

It is now classed as an illegal tackle and the third man running in will be sitting in the grand stands for some weeks if caught attempting this low un-sportsman like disgusting gutless tackle.
Some poor innocent defencless player could get his career taken away from him in one lousy tackle.

I praise the NRL for acting on this tackle mid-season and not waiting until the end of season forums when these issues are usually discussed and implemented.. NRL

Good on the NRL and when other teams bar wigan start using it , then and only then it will be banned by the clowns running our game.
chris_holme are you afraid to answer the question because it shows the lengths that the perrennial cheats wigan will go to , just to win a game. Any player using this tactic to injure another should be ashamed of themselves.

Cheese ......... grow up lad, you werent amusing on 606 and I see nothing has changed

need to get a bit of perspective here, the third man in locks the legs together so the other defenders can put the player on their back easier, never any intention of causing injury or "aiming" for the knee.

Also when does it stop? I could put a much more compelling argument together for banning tackling with the shoulder, like union, as there is much more intent to do damage but it would take a great part of the game away

At the end of the day, rugby league is a hugely dangerous and physical sport by design and thats part of what makes it great. You start making certain things illegal we should be sure that they are the types of thing that are needlessly dangerous (spear, chicken wing) but banning a 3rd man from coming in and wrapping the legs seems like the start of a slippery slop, by all means if the player gets it wrong (like Lima did) then punish them, but for me, numbers in the tackle, two high one wrap the legs, is just good technique

hmm wrapping the legs you say, that doesnt need to be done at 100 mph and after leading with the shoulder as rat boy does it. Ask cunningham how it feels to have your legs wrapped up this way

U8214, ...The third man coming in does not make it an illaegal tackle, that is fine.

It is when two players have a defencless player on his feet going no-where & then a third party comes in and drives a mans legs into a position that they are not meant to be is the issue....

The very first time I witnessed such a tackle was when Braith Anasta (over 12 years NRL experience) and another player had hold of Craig Wing in round one of the 2008 season Souths Vs Roosters and Annasta was nodding in indication to a young Riley to come in and hit him whilst we have him up........Wing ended up on the physio table for 4 months after his operation thanks to Anasta and his mates and I witnessed 3 weeks ago our half at South's do the exact same tackle on an opposing player and I felt absolutely disgusted to call him a South Sydney player for acting in such a low manner.
It was this tackle of Sandow that made the NRL finally act on it.

every thing you say souths i agree with but it will take a long time to get it banned hear but we can hope it does get banned before someone is crippled

Lets hope it doesn't get to that flash, hopefully the brains trust will see that this tackle is dangerous before somebody gets his career taken away from them......

What's worse is the youngsters will pick up on it and we will end up with kids 15 on crutches or wheel chairs.

The type of tackling (attacking the knees) not good for the game and should be outlawed from the game all together. All this came about from the Lima tackle at Leeds when eddie wouldnt stop harping on about it for the rest of the game. (he really does like over highlighting things that go on in the game). Which if you look at, the guy is pushed over as lima goes in to tackle him which made the point of contact lower. Every team goes for three men in the tackle with the third usually hitting the quads and driving the man over. What annoys is when people say that its only wigan who are doing this type of tackling when its actually widespread.
Injuries from this type of tackle are rare and are a lot less than people who get twisted in the tackle and blow out knees.

You need to calm down a bit with that one. Usain Bolt only runs at 27 mph!

Strange how only you chris cant see the cheating going on. Stamp this out before it ends careers

Like I said above that attacking the knees is a no no. What happens if just one person goes into a tackle, hits low and hard but causes the same injury?

IT IS ALREADY BANNED!!!!
the fact Lima was sent off and banned means this is already against the rules, if you are allowed to come in as a 3rd man and attack the knees then what was he sent off for and why did the RFL ban him for???

Insidous,
That tackle on Cunningham should have been punished no one would argue that but it was a bad call from the ref, that happens week in week out and how long ago was that! surly there have been lots of incidents missed/dealt with wrongly since then.

Your moaning months after about one incident that even KC didnt moan this much as for Sam Tomkins, he gets more than his fair share of rough treatment and picks himself up everytime and gets on with it.

There have been several comments by different coaches on this matter, mainly directed at one particular club. It is difficult for a ref to spot everything and there have been instances where the ref has been approached by opposing players. Not everything that seeks to gain an advantage is necessarily cheating but this needs stamping out quick.

WarriorBT..........there are numerous reason why he may of got sent off....

* Making a tackle after the ref had called held (on more then one occasion)
* Attacking the head of an opponent
* Driving in with his knees

What in fact was the charges brought down to Lima..was it (attacking the knees with the shoulder on a stationary player already held)

Ganson who was the ref at the time said "your off mate, dangerous contact to the knee"

RFL said

"Lima, who pleaded not guilty to the Grade B charge of making dangerous contact, was ruled to have caused the knee joint of opponent Chris Clarkson to move in an abnormal direction that involved an unacceptable risk of injury to the Leeds Rhinos player at Headingley Carnegie Stadium last Friday. The panel also fined Lima £300."

Cheers WarriorBT....well then obviously the rule is in place we just need more ref's like Ganson and it will be the last we see of this disgraceful tackle (hopefully)
