Gerrard ran straight at 3 players and went down rather than pass to a wide open Theo is 5 yards of space on the edge of the box, and then a few minutes later tried to take the ball off theo as they were both bursting through, and then took on a half chance when the ox had the hammer cocked so to speak to blast it past the keeper.
How anyone can say either of those instances weren't extremely selfish, taking the ball on himself rather than pass to a team mate in a far better position for the first and actually taking it off the toe of a better positioned player in the second, is beyond me.

Gerrard is a glory hunter, hunting for his personal glory. Yes, a great cross, it was, really. But the rest of the game he was awful. When Iniesta has the ball, Xavi runs towards him. When Parker has the ball, Gerrard just stands still. No movement, no short passing, no technique.
Depends on yor definition of playing well. He's not been as bad as a lot of our players, but has been nothing more than ok. Two great crosses for the goals, but this is the problem with people, they look at that and forget about all the time the ball is given away, the running around to no avail, and being second best in the middle of the park.
Same with Welbeck and Carroll. In the two games Welbeck has been one of our better players, held the ball up well, brought others into play, and scored a good goal. Basically standard stuff, but people are going overboard saying he's been brilliant.
Carroll scored a great header, now people say he played great, despite not winning much in the air (his sole use) and giving it away a lot. Did some half decent things in terms of hold up, which is a minimum I'd expect from him, but apparently he was great and should start with Rooney .
"This is what I dont get about the Arsenal fans. They constantly praise chamberlain for doing basically nothing vs France and then have a go at a player who has set up half our goals and played pretty well."
Chamberlain was average against France, I think everybody knows that. The praise is because of the fact he has got this far and is showing great maturity. Gerrard, the captain of England and our most experienced player has been incredibly selfish and immature. He has actually done well so far IMO but it does not take away the fact that when he sees his name in the lights he thinks about himself first and his team second.
Chamberlin wasn't even given the freedom v France, yet still did good. Plus he's 18, making his tournament debut v France.
Then you Stevie Me, with nearly 90 caps or so, being selfish.
****ing hell, you can't say anything negative about a Liverpool player on here.
It's like blasphemy, Kam.
Do you agree with my expert analysis of the match? Now remember, you cannot disagree with me or I'll filter you.
Good man. What did you think of the game?
Despite his own goal I didn't think Johnson played that badly. Was a poor first half with no quality. Second half we were very poor with Sweden looking half decent. Walcott looked good when we came on and made the game more exciting with some end to end stuff.
Was like watching a Stoke vs Blackburn game in the prem. Lots of excitement with little quality.
But we'll let the scousers have their moment of glory and think they were class.
Like you say, the first half was pretty boring. Both teams were sitting too deep and not taking enough risks.
I agree with you regarding Johnson, he wasn't great, but he wasn't as bad as people are making out. He was okay.
I like the Stoke vs Blackburn comparison Sweden are like Stoke, they have 5 or 6 absolute giants in their team. They rely on scoring from set pieces.
I'm going for a dump. I'll be thinking about you while I release, Daz :0
Gerrard put in a great cross for the first goal. Other than that he was terrible. Slow, poor tackling, failing to track back, failing to play a simple ball to Theo for a one on one, greedily taking the ball off OXO who had a simple side foot goal stolen by Gerrard's glory boy antics.
Gerrard looked like a donkey in midfield with no energy.
Oh, and I am begining to see why Gerrard / Lampard never worked... i had thought it was Lampard's fault, but now its becoming clear it was Stevie Me.
