Stewart Downing is actually decent when ive seen him in a England shirt.
I can only assume he's played to give glen Johnson license to get forward
I wouldn't have either but if you're gonna make me choose then it should be Milner. The pair of them do feck all offensively but Milner always puts in a decent defensive shift.
So out of the two attacking wingers, I'd go for the more defensive one
James milner should be a right back
Downing is world class tbf.
I don't think Milner's as bad as people make out, but what irks me is the way the pundits suggest he is the only winger in the squad that can defend.
Admittedly, Olsson had one good break down the left-hand side, but other than that, I'd say the threat of Walcott pinned him back well.
I'd like to see both Chamberlain and Walcott feature more regularly.

That annoys me as well. Against France and tonight, there were plenty of attacks against us from Milner's side of the pitch. He isn't some sort of defensive genius who we would struggle without. Walcott and Ox do their fair share of defensive work too. I hope both start against Ukraine because we honestly have no hope of keeping the ball, creating chances if we have Milner and Young out wide.
James Run-of-the-mill..ner
I said after the France game and several times since that when Ox was on the left wing virtually nothin came down that side, but after he went off nearly everything did. Is that not evidence of a winger who can defend (and was playing LB a lot of the time).
Glad to hear I'm not the only one that it annoys.
I agree; Walcott's a good worker and his threat helps nullify the threat of the opposition full-back, whilst I honestly think Chamberlain is at least as good as Milner defensively - although I'm not sure if he has the stamina to do it for 90 minutes.
He's one of the reasons why england fail to win comprehensively. Just wastes possession every time he gets a decent chance to make something happen
