Havin lived in England more than enough years, I can safely say this is an important match to them and when we beat them it will hurt.

"I can safely say this is an important match to them"
--------------------
Important in the sense of avoiding embarrassment, but nothing like the feel of playing Germany or Argentina in a competitive match.

Personally I'd rather just not schedule the fixture at all as it's lose/lose. Win the game and it's only Scotland lose and it's embarrassing.

What's the point in playing a fixture that does nothing for the development of the English national side in terms of its ability to compete on the World stage? It's just a money making scheme and a mechanism for a few fans of the Scotland national team to have a big day out.

Personally couldn't give a damn about the development of that national team.

It's a local derby and pride is at stake on both sides, that is more than enough reason for me.

Meaningless game simply to generate cash for the TV companies all at the expense of the fans.

As usual.

And before you write this game off as a foregone conclusion, I can remember a certain Wales team turning up at Wembley last year and battering you for a good full second half and last bit of the first half, shame Earnshaw messed it up mind.

They have hardly upset the odds, they have got to the quarter-finals which was expected of them, ok maybe they have it done in a better fashion than expected, but there about to meet a powerhouse now and they always go out when they meet a decent team.

If that whanker is in charge of us..then we will, won't go to another scotland game untill he's removed from his post..he's done nothing to merit that job.

They can be happy that they have reached the quarters as that is what they are, a quarter final team, tho there arrogance and just generally being thick would suggest there going to go all the way. Pundits are already labeling Italy 'ordinary'.

Roll on Sunday, Forza Italia!

Though I haven't forgot what they did to us in 2007

"Should the Spansih and Germans not bother with you chaps because you're really of no consequence to them?"

"And for pity's sake; don't embarrass yourselves by trying to kid on otherwise. Those two nations are light years ahead."

----------------------------------------------------------------
Completely agree. Germany and Spain are light years ahead of England in almost every department.

English fans don't have high expectations or any delusions that they have a great team. That is just a Scottish myth given credence by an excitable media machine.

I dread playing any of the home nations, particularly in any competitive match, as the opposition always raise their game about three notches. For example: I think Scotland and their fans would take almost as much pleasure in stopping England from qualifying for a major tournament as they would from qualifying themselves. This all makes them extremely dangerous opposition.

England have put many measures into place at grass roots level to try and improve the technical development of young players. It will take years for these players to start to come through before we can even attempt to try and compete with the likes of Spain. It's been obvious for years that our system simply doesn't work. In the mean time playing sides better than us might improve us, but playing sides like Scotland won't.

Of course I'd care about this fixture, but as I said before it's lose lose. Scotland raise their game and beat us to cause maximum embarrassment or we win a meaningless game, which won't improve our competitiveness on the world stage.

Scottish fans will look forward to this fixture with excitement. English fans will look at it with trepidation and breath a sigh of relief if we win. A meaningless fixture just to give a few Scots a hard on because it's the only big game they get because they don't qualify for anything meaningful.

Better just to not bother at all!
