Welcome to the Roi board. Good side you have selected. I would hope to see young Roi players such as Clifford Duffy and Brady becoming established premiership players over the next 2 or 3 seasons

Moyes certainly rates Duffy very highly and with the budget constraints at Everton, Moyes is always likely to promote youth. Hopefully Brady will be sent out on loan to a lower PL team which is what United usually do with thier players after a loan in the Championship(Welbeck-Preston,Sunderland: Cleverley-Watford, Wigan). I too have high hopes for Clifford but fear that he will not get the chances at Chelsea. Since Roman has come in the trend seems to be to buy already established stars.. You could argue that point with Sturudge but then he came through at City

I like it mate but under Trap that will never happen so that is why he needs to go if we want are young players coming through if Trap stays I'll be worried because if our senior players retire it means Trap will be picking the likes of O' Dea and McShane instead them

Surely at the age of 73 he has had enough! Especially after the beatings we have been subjected to recently. The press are turning on him already!

What I feel about trap is that he has probably taken us as far as he ever will! His brand of football can produce results but not at the top of the game. If it could we would see the likes of stoke qualifying for the CL. I would love to see a young fresh manager come in and embrace our naturally talented players instead of sticking with the work horses

I have a feeling trapp may step down after the finals. As above he has taken us as far as he can with the players he has picked but time to move on I think. We have a few talented young lads coming through but with the absence of a top class striker we may struggle for a while. That's why I'm ok about Robbie staying put for the mean time. I'd like to see young Paul George hopefully get a few games for Celtic this season and make an impact, seen him at school boy level for NI before he switched and looks extremely technically gifted. Wouldn't mind Anthony stokes being given ago even though the SPL is pure dort he's probably out best natural finisher. In most other positions we are fairly well served with young talent but definately up front is where we may struggle in the years to come. Thanks for the memories trapp

Embrace our naturally talented players??

Which Talented players??

Sorry lads but if we're going to be brutally honest, in the Roy Keane sense of the word then we need to accept that these so called "talented players" waiting in the wings are actually very average in relative international terms...

They all play for lower mid table premier league clubs...

How many of our players are playing in the Champions League? The Europa League? Even playing at a top 6 club?.... Zero

Sure Trap's tactics are prehistoric (though they have got us 2nd in qualifying twice now much better than previous managers) and his team selections infuriating and the performance of the players in the last 2 games is the worst I've seen Ireland under the current manager all his 4 years...

....but lets not kid ourselves into thinking a team full of McClean, Hoolahan, McCarthy, Wilson, Coleman etc.. would have got better results against Croatia and Spain.. .

They have world class players all over the pitch, we don't and haven't had a single player in that category since Roy Keane retired and Robbie and Duffers got old and crocked...

He needs to bring in some new players for the new qualifying campaign definitely, but to suggest that all of the old guard, Dunne, Given, Duff etc should be tossed is ridiculous!!

Just because they got shown up against two of the best teams in world football doesn't mean they can't do a job in qualifying and help us get the points we need to stay competitive and get to WC 2014.

---------------------------------------------
McClean would be a better option than McGeady
Hoolahan would be a better option than Whelan
McCarthy would be a better option than Andrews
Coleman should be at right back and O Shea moved to the centre with Dunne, St Ledger benched.
Clark is a better option than St ledger or Ward
Wilson is a better option than Whelan and McShane

So you never know we might have did better against Croatia and against Italy tonight. You just love nothing more than coming on here with your smiley faces trying to ridicule people for criticizing trap(and rightly so). If it was Stan would you defend him as much as you defend trap? Doubt it. No doubt you get a hardon when you see trap calling up the likes of McShane, Whelan, Keogh, Green etc You love nothing more than Trap sending out his beloved mates because apparently we wouldn't do any better with our more talented players. What is the point in you? your like Roy Keane, trying to be controversial for the sake of it.

Should we should tell McCarthy, Clark and Wilson etc to retire? whats the point in them committing to the Irish cause if we cant do any better with them in the team? thank god your not the manager anyway.

Hey, like I said I'm no fan of the current manager's tactics and baffling team selections, but his RESULTS OVER THE LAST 4 YEARS NOT THE LAST 7 DAYS , have been very good and much better than anything we've had since the days of Charlton and McCarthy.

If he rolls into the new qualifying campaign giving players like Green and McShane a first team place, then of course he would deserve the sack, but I think this is highly unlikely.

He is an Italian obsessed with loyalty and is giving these old players one more chance to restore their pride.

After tonight that will be that.

I highly doubt it. If I ever see Paul Green or McShane in an Ireland shirt again after tommorrow I think ill lose the head.

Ok I understand your scepticism that Trap will change, but if YOU were the manager what changes to the team would you make as in formation, players, captain etc?

posted on 18/6/12

Well its hard to say at this moment because we dont know which of the older players are staying on for the world cup campaign, but hopefully they all stay on apart from Duff who should retire tomorrow night on his 100th cap. I would also give the captaincy to Richie Dunne instead of Keane. I would go for something like this
--------------------------Given------------------------
-----------------O'Shea------Dunne-----------------
Coleman--------------------------------------Clark
------------McCarthy-Gibson-Andrews----------
McGeady------------------------------------McClean
------------------------Keane------------------------

I'd start by playing more across the midfield when we are playing the likes of Spain and leave Paul Greene behind at the team Hotel!

@el godfather

Do you think keane could do the job up front by himself? Everyone iv talked to wants three across the middle which means one up front. I'm just not sure keane is quick, mobile or strong enough to do this role and woul have long, doyle and Walters ahead of him in that order

posted on 18/6/12

See thats what trap should have been doing in friendly's, trying out these formations. If I remember correctly, Keane during his early days at spurs played up front on his own for a while it did fine. I would try it out anyway, And have McClean and McGeady playing further up the pitch than trap would allow, almost in a supporting role.

posted on 18/6/12

I remember keane playing that role but where most players lose a yard of pace as they age, robbie has lost about 3/4

what about sammon??? playing with wigan people had high hopes for him

I think what most people are frustrated with trap seems to be the fact that our younger players don't seem to be getting a chance under his management. I'm very grateful I've had the chance to see my country in a major finals, but under trap where do we go from here?

We do have some young talented guys who would have benefited from even a subs appearance last night sadly most weren't in the squad. I understand traps loyalty to the players who got us there but 3 games on the bounce those players let him down. It's not the point that we lost in the toughest group we could have got...the point is we weren't competitive in any of those games

Thanks trap will remember you fondly but we need some fresh ideas, like the look of el godfathers team
