Rogues of Rugby!

The Stevens one is better, I used to live just down the road, and have friends who were out in Bath all the time. Anyway, Bath is tiny - maybe 60-70,000 population, if that, so the rugby players are easy to spot - you'd imagine that would make them try to fit in and keep their heads down, however, ...

Stevens was out leading a group of players including some youth players, all of whom had "had a few" - nothing desperately new there, unfortunately he was "singing" (or rather roaring) "Class A, It's OK, Everybody's doin' it"

- Oh dear!

Cecillon I have some sympathy for, he was trumpetted as the great saviour of French rugby and in the 1991 World Cup (?) was about to run in a try (around half time I think) that would put France firmly on top against England, when he ran head long into Mickey Skinner who hammered him back about 10 metres, the shock was so great neither France nor Cecillon recovered. Tragically, Cecillon never really recovered and it seemed to open a chasm of self-doubt lurking within him, after his playing days were done it seemed to consume him and he hit the bottle big time to swallow that up.

He then began to fear his wife was having an affair, and hit the bottle even harder to essentially shut the voices up in his head, but at a family barbecue he drank too much, ended up in a row with his wife and tragically shot her, with his family and children all within earshot.

Apparently the police had to strike him with batons to loosened his grip on his wifes body and he couldn't talk through tears for several days afterward, and was on suicide watch all throughout the trial, when he often couldn't speak and repeatedly broke down

PS - also disappointed with Hoo-er

He should have clubbed it to death, Willie John McBride or Gareth Chilcott would have battered it to death with their own heads

Players these days etc ....

Was it henson or cipriani who told all his teammates after a game that he could have sharggged any of their wives if he'd wanted ?

Nobody can even come close to Zac Guildford. He just wins.

thats a good one JPB, I'd be tempted to guess Henson, but I'm not sure

i think it was henson SARS

what's the story with that guildford then aristo ? i googled an article which said that he walked naked into a bar and punched two fellas out. but i also found an interview (which seemed to be about the same incident) in which a new zealand official stated that no incident took place, but the player had been reprimanded internally for drinking excessively ?

a couple of the stories in the article there are pretty sad. the guy who took off to the outback, but of course mostly the french guy.

re the team selection, i'd have thought that tindall and tuiglagi would be pushing for a place, based on their world cup performances.

willie john mcrbride for threatening to turn his lions squad against the local police if the hotel manager called them regarding an incident which had taken place in the hotel.

the argentian prop who polaxed wade dooley.

trevor brennan !! for attacking a spectator

coach would have to be dean richards wouldnt it ?

how about lol dallaglio (charlie) and wll carling (princess di) ?

(i cheated with the last 2)

Zac Guildford should be on the wing.. Assaulted two holidaymakers in a bar in Rarotonga last year while he was drunk and naked haha

JPB just on your suggestions i think the guy who wrote the article originally was using players who were drunk or drugged. So Brennan etc etc dont count.

But ye Guildford got away this time. he should most defiantly be in there if the story is true....

The Guildford story appears to be true (see link below). Thats a story that even a Premiership footballer would be ashamed of - I like the fact that after assualting the folks he seemed to "wake up to the fact he was naked"

Jono - good to have a Kiwi on hear, can I just ask what its like to support a country that ALWAYS goes into a game as favourites - does it ever get boring and is their anyone who New Zealand fear? France perhaps?
