Town fan in peace - is Scannell any good?
Jimbo least hes not an old fogey like what them down road are signing at the mo!
I'll be gutted if he left just cause he is a local lad and been with us for ages. He's a good Championship player but it seems like he's getting phased out by other wingers. I thought we would have had Zaha upfront and have him on the right wing?
Huddersfield will be getting a Championship experienced player. Even if they got relegated (which I don't think they will) he'll be a good League 1 player too.
100+ games for Palace and he's only 21
thanks mon im chuffed to bits with this signing. maybe he fancied a change?
cos im lead to believe he only signed a 4.5 years contract last september.
Cheers Mon, im happy enough with this signing.
He should give us some much needed pace and flair in the attacking area!
Good luck for the rest of the season, but hope we finish above you
I thought it was rumours but it's true! Well obviously wish him the best and think he will be good for you guys. He is a quick player but doesn't have much skill so don't expect tricks on wing. He's probably moved to play more games than he would here. Like I said he's played over 100 games for us in the Championship so at least you've got a player who can handle himself at this level.
I would wish you guys good luck but Palace fans already did at the end of last season. There was a beer festival at Selhurst Park the day of the L1 play-off final and if you got promoted we get £90k as a clause from Alan Lee. So let me say on behalf of Palace fans well done on getting promoted!

What's the point in the Palace Academy?
We're feeding the Clubs that's just left League 1 now!
Roy Keane let Jordan Rhodes go from Ipshit to udders, I hope Our Dougie Freedman hasn't done the same mistake with Scanz! :/
So-much for South London & Proud!!! We're letting the local players go Just hope Dougie Freedman know's what he's doing, or Zaha be next! & dunno what's going on with Clyne!
Sad to hear this but he has been ignored and badly treated by colin, Burley and then Doog. Beat wishes for the future Scans and hope you don't come back and bite us on the bum.
A bit of an over reaction there Paul! It's not like we've sold a player that's started most games last season. I hope he plays more games than he did here recently because he's a good player but it's better to see our academy players doing well (hopefully for Palace but doesn't always happen that way) than just being a squad player. As far as South London & Proud how many other youth players have come through? If anything we should be asking how much did we sell him for? I don't know know if you were at the Fans Forum but the owners said they would give Freedman 3 years to try the youth players and then they will start selling them. I assume that he didn't see Scannell as part of his plans?
I already mentioned to Paul on Facebook that it's the fact we need to bring in another squad player. He has really been no more than a squad player under Dougie, but you still need squad players at all levels. Will Dougie buy to replace him with someone better or will he promote another youngster to the squad and hope he can play at Champ level that we'll have to wait and see.
I think Scannell leaving has dissapointed fans because Gardner has left and Clyne will probably still move on and we have bought in Ward & Martin(loanee) to basicly replace the former. If we replace Scanell with 32 year old Wilbraham (rumoured) then i would not be best pleased.
Sure it says somewhere he started 37 games last season?
Sorry, but I don't buy into the whole sentimental approach with which people are taking to Scannell's departure. He has shown glimpses of what he can do but has never been consistent enough. Played with a lot of passion but his end product wasn't quite where it should be, and 13 goals in 141 appearances isn't exactly prolific. I think we've given him enough time to develop but sadly he hasn't progressed like other youngsters such as Zaha, Clyne etc. Obviously appreciate everything he did here and his assist for Ambrose's goal at Hillsborough will live long in the memory. I do, however, think the move is what's best for both parties.
Another loss for us. I have watched him come through the ranks well only to see him have a mediocre season and a half under Freedman. I just don't feel he was played to his strengths. Spent too much time on a wing under poor management.
Still relatively early in the close season but atm we look like starting the season considerably weaker than we finished.
No Pedroza either and he looked worth more game time on the glimpses that I saw.
But hey, Paddy and Kg are still there.......

I never understand this "undisclosed fee" term.
Why ? Are the selling club embarrassed about how cheaply they have sold him or the buying club embarrassed about how much they have paid.
In all forms of public life from banking to politics the buzz word is transparency.
I feel as a paying supporter I should know where the clubs money is either going or coming from.
Eagle whenever town sell someone its always undisclosed and us town fans always feel a little short changed.
Any news on McCormack from Leeds? hearing stuff about him.
According to rumours Palace have had a bid accepted for McCormack, and are now discussing personal terms with the player. I'm only getting this from message boards and people who claim to be 'in the know' but they are pretty respected on the BBS so wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be true. It's been reported this morning that there is a compromise which needs to be made over personal terms if the deal is to go through.
Huddersfield also rumoured in the Mirror to have made a £2.5mil bid for McCormack, but this seems unlikely given that he led the player revolt against Grayson while the two were at Leeds.
Good solid player is McCormack, I think it's a good purchase.
In regards to the undisclosed fee someone asked that question on the BBS and the reply from CPFC2010 was
"Yes the 2 clubs agree between themselves not to announce the fee. It's often because there might be negotiations going on for the sale/purchase of other players and a club might not want to set a precedent or reveal how much they have to spend for someone else."
I'm sure we will find out eventually how much they paid. I think most fans would see glimpses of Scannell at his best and think it's the brink of something amazing. He either never got the chance to really show his worth (which hopefully he will now - just not against us) or he is just too inconsistent.
Apparently Kyle Da Silva is the new "Williams" in terms of this seasons youth player to come through. The season after that is meant to be Sow and I take it that Reese kid is going to be playing a bit more soon.
I know the owners said we're going to spend a lot more money this season, which after recent years already makes me feel a bit uneasy! But I hope we're not planning on spending 2.5m on one player. When was the last time we spent over £2m on a decent player?
We're certainly not going to be spending £2.5mil on McCormack, that was just a figure that The Mirror claimed Huddersfield had offered. The figure I've heard with regards to Scannell is that he has gone for around 800k, and most of this money has gone towards the McCormack bid which will not exceed £1mil. As I've already said, I'm only getting this info from what I've read on various message boards and so on, but Richard Cawley (SLP - normally quite reliable) confirmed our interest today, so we'll see what happens.
Well I guess if it's just interest it could be rumours or who knows?
But when was the last time we made a 'big-money' signing that was worth the transfer fee?
I think McCormack would definitely be worth the fee. Proven at this level and always seems to score against us so it'd be a massive coup if we could get him. Perhaps the goal scorer we've been looking for?
