Was in Arizona a few years ago and the amount of womens football matches I witnessed being played at local parks was quite incredible. I would think accessible "soccer" culture in the US, will probably result in them having a very strong team at some point in the not too distant future.

You know you're bad when a penalty is the pick of the goals, not to mention the last goal being a mile offside.

I don't object to women's football in the slightest but what does bother me is how they insist on putting it on telly every year when their FA Cup Final features teams who are no better than Sunday League football.

By having that as you're showcase I think it actually harms women's football by making it a laughing stock.

The other thing that bothers me is how patronising the commentators always are. If the goalie makes a howler in men's football, they say so. If it happens in women's football, they try and make excuses and say she "tried hard"

Apparently women's football is the fastest growing sport in the US

Afternoon Admin1. Without trying to be arrogant the Americans play some really silly sports. Baseball the rest of the world calls rounders, and basketball the rest of the world call it netball. They do not seem to play the same sports that we do like Rugby, Cricket, etc.

Yeah, though most of the silly sports that they play at, they end up being the best in the world at and the sports themselves often end out very lucrative and successful commercial enterprises. We don't really have any billion pound netball or rounders teams do we?
From the USA being a bit of a joke team in prior to 1994 WC, and the growth/infrastructure at the youth/woman's football system is something I would argue is very complimentary you could very well see the soccer moms producing and supporting a very capable men's team in the near future.

It's not just Americans that play basketball. In terms of atmosphere, Greeks own Americans http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GVJUhGTB2s - and this video isn't a one off.

This is really stupid and sexist article if it's not meant sardonically.

What's the point? It's a sport! That's the point. Why shouldn't woman be able to play it and aspire to great things in it? What because they're not as good as it as men? Or there's not as much interest.

Woman's golf, I suppose that's pointless too then?

Seriously ignorant article.

I know a member of the England women's football team quite well (well i did know). And I suggested to her that if you put me, who was a reasonable standard semi pro player at the time, in the England ladies team, I would run the show. She laughed at me at wasn't having it. So I challenged her to a football skills challenge sort of thing consisting of kick ups, passing and shooting accuracy, and dribbling round cones.

I wiped the floor with her.

Women's football is an absolute joke

Why is it considered sexsist to give an opinion on womens football. I don`t go in for all this you are not allowed to say certain things for fear of criticising a certain gender. It is political correctness gone mad.

The standard isn't good, that's a given, but that's besides the point.

Pretty well much so yes.

Sandy, it's not political correctness gone mad. Your argument as far as I can see it, woman arn't nearly as good at football as men so they shouldn't even bother playing it.

Which is just, for me, a bit narrow minded. We're spoilt watching the high standards of the Prem and then it just seems to me to have a least a hint of sexism when we scoff at the low standards of womans football.

It doesn't have the amount of money or resources as the mens game and is only recently getting a little more exposure. Just because in general the game isn't good now, what is there to say that in years, with proper funding and heigtened interest that the game can't improve immeasurably.

That doesn't surprise me, the technique I see even at International level is lamentable. I'd love to see them go up against someone like Marine, my local semi-pro club. They'd get a tonking.

Doctor M, Sandy's a wum, don't waste your time.

don't buy that argument sorry.

we had a player in Joe Cole that probably would wipe the floor with most if not all players in that dept, but its what they bring in matches that count, and sadly (yes injuries might be the reason) he wasn't what you would expect or what we got from him

more to a game than kick me up skills.

i know a few players that are good at skills with a football but bring nothing to the game.

I did not say they should not play it, I said it was not for me and I could not really see the point in it, when the men`s game is vastly superior. I did however mention that some people probably did enjoy it, and that is fair enough. The point I tried to make is womens football was not in my opinion a sport that I could watch, and I am then being accused of being sexist.

posted on 24/6/12

No, well I agree then Sandy on that point, I don't enjoy personally watching it...

... but I don't think that it is universally "pointless", which (sorry), was how your OP came across.

Jenners. Considering that it is not allowed for Me or any Other man to play in a woman's game then there is no way to know.

you just want to be in the same changing room as them, come on admit it, i know i wouldn't mind, but i am a dirty fook

just think it is silly personally, when we have a problem with obesity in the world, that we suddenly have a problem with women doing sports, good on them i say, makes no dif to me, too many lazy people in today's society, we should be encouraging sports, not discouraging it

This exactly. Sports is played primarily for the player, not the spectator.
