Dung,
Still more to go and come in in July IMO
Don't forget Marshall in the wing department
Good point. Although he can play centrally too.
If we lose either Beckford or Nugent, either through injury, suspension or selling them, we lack any real potency in the back-up strikers and would really struggle to score goals.
The midfield is probably our strongest area but still looks quite weak compared to the likes of Bolton, Wolves, Birmingham, Blackburn, Cardiff, etc.
Also, one area you don't touch on is goalkeeper. I think we really need a back-up for Kasper, not just in case of injury, but because I think he got complacent at the back end of last season and looked a lot less solid than he had been. An experienced No.2 who can challenge Kasper is important IMO.
Even if we were to play a 4-3-3, I still think another winger is a priority now.
I just wonder whether we will see Pearson use Drinkwater as a wide midfielder. He does like to have a player like this who can come in and join in with the midfielders. Oakley did it, Gally played like this when out wide.
Not a bad idea actually because, in theory, you should be able to retain possession better and avoid being outnumbered to teams who play with 3 in the middle.
imbalnce,maybe.
Transfer window open yet, no
patience my fellow foxes!!
The transfer window isn't officially open until the 1st of July, but transfers are still going through. Like Bamba to Trabzonspor for example?
We do evidently have major gaps in our squad, however the transfer window hasn't even opened yet so I am not at all concerned by this. If we reach the end of August without filling the gaps then I will start panicking.
I'm confident Pearson will be looking at another Marshall style winger to bring in as a minimum. Also, we haven't really seen Adam Smith, Jamie Vardy, and Matty James play yet so I am not going to make assumptions with regards to their ability in a city shirt.
Foxello - Not sure what the transfer rules are regarding foreign clubs, but im guessing theyre different
The transfer window isn't 'open' yet but deals can be done. They just can't play for us until 1st July but that is irrelevant as there are no matches. So, to all intents and purposes, the window is open.
I think everyone just about said that last season our midfield seemed to be the weakest department and I'm really hoping therefore that new players are signed to address this. It would appear that our Nige is building from the back first which is fair enough but it'll be an interesting July I think.
The deals that get done early tend to be for out of contract players or squad players. There are exceptions, but when you're targetting another team's first choice the negotiations are much more complex. That's not to mention holidays and players/agents assessing their options.
I just hope we see sensible recruitment in July and August. I'm not really interested in seeing us linked with someone every other day just because the manager likes to spout to the media.
The two most exciting transfer windows I've witnessed were in Martin Allen's pre-season and Sven's pre season. The seasons that followed both ended in major disappointment.
